The food is unforgettable and served with impeccable style and panache. An amuse bouche of cold asparagus soup with tiny shellfish was distinctive and delicious. Lamb (so fresh and tasty I suspect the beast walked into the kitchen about an hour before roasting) was amazing. A dish combining lobster and sweetbreads could not have been more perfectly prepared. One of the most memorable meals in our extensive touring experience and served within arguably the most distinctive setting since our meal in a “The Keeper’s House”, a lighthouse keeper’s dwelling also on an island off the coast of Maine.
My wife and I decided to dine at this establishment as we have never have eaten there before even after having been on Belle Ile for at least 8 times. And I have to say it was good decision as it was excellent. Actually better than expected (also when reading previous comments . The food was very delicious and nicely decorated. It was pretty tasty and well cooked. In fact, I believe that if this restaurant continues on this level and makes the right adjustments (i.e. more refined sauces, more eagerness to experimentation with ingredients to further stimulate the taste buds, etc. then they are ready for some Gault Millau Points. Probably around 13/14 with potential for more. Service as well is good and attentive. Not intrusive rather courteous. The chef de rang even helped us to carry our baby stroller down some stairs when leaving the restaurant. Chapeau! Finally, the atmosphere is good as well. It feels a bit like being in a maison de plaisance. And for the plaisir you actually go to a restaurant. Also, not too noisy. Fits! Overall, great food, good service, nice atmosphere and that for a ridiculous cheap price (4 course menu for 35 Euro per person makes this a five star tripadvisor establishment.
With my husband we took the lunch menu limited options available, so we assumed the quality would be good. Overall the starter was pleasant, but the main course beef, came almost blue even if I have asked it well cooked. Also the vegetables and patatos lacked taste. Really disappointing considering the good situation of the restaurant and moreover rembering the pleasure of an exquisite dinner the day before with perfectly cooked meat, fish and vegetables in a nearby restaurant downhill.
We had a totally wicked dessert plate in general the food was sensational great wine and excellent service
This restaurant is in the grounds of Citadelle Vauban and offers a grand dining experience. Expect the service to be relatively slow and the dining room to be on the bright side, not romantic but, overall very enjoyable. 2 Menu de l'Artilleur and a half bottle of Chablis €135).
