Leo's Mexican Food - Lawndale

I grew up in North Redondo Beach, right across from the original location of Leo's on Inglewood Avenue. I was friends with the Presiado family, and I went to school with Lionel’s younger brother, Ruben. From 1968 to 1970, I worked there as a busboy and dishwasher, and I also helped with cooking and filling orders. Now, at 72 years old and living in Ventura County, I still make it a point to stop by and eat there whenever I visit family in the South Bay. I've even continued to cook my own versions of Mexican dishes using the knowledge I gained while working at Leo's. It was a fantastic place to work, and I had a lot of fun most of the time. I will truly miss it, and I was quite disappointed to hear that Starbucks will be taking over the property.

I began dining at Leo's in the fall of 1980. I worked just around the corner, and our boss would treat us to lunch there every Saturday. We continued that tradition throughout my time at the company. When I was dating my girlfriend, we often went there for dinner. After we got married, we celebrated at least 25 of our 37 anniversary dinners at Leo's. It truly holds a special place in our hearts. The food has always been, and will always be, outstanding. The service is consistently exceptional as well. Although we now live quite a bit farther away, we still make the drive every now and then to enjoy a lovely dinner there.

I am truly shocked and saddened to hear that Leo's has closed. I recall how the owners used to warmly greet their guests, filled with pride about the story behind the restaurant's opening. Losing Leo's feels like losing a piece of history. Thankfully, we still have wonderful memories to hold onto.

Drove by last Friday and thought odd that Leo's was closed on a Fri. only to find out they permanently closed. Bummer!!! Always busy, and a patio seat always welcomed us for our favorite pitcher cadillac margaritas. Open for 70 yrs, we were glad to be able to enjoy Leo's for the past 20. We'll miss you and special thanks to your entire crew for their wonderful service!!!

Me my family ate at Leo's every week, we absolutely loved the restaurant. So sad to see the doors closed. Much love to you all!
