Mountain - Lauterbrunnen

We had both lunch and dinner! Very good food, good service! Super friendly staff! Loved the place!

We had lunch several times this stay at the mountain hostel . Lovely location on the back patio , great views , simply menu , but pizzas are amazing , all homemade and very fresh , with a cold local beer , we would defiantly recommend and return , thank you

The Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald was a welcomed and fantastic destination for lunch. After a long hike down from Mürren, it looked incredibly beautiful to us! It had friendly and helpful service as well as a mid-afternoon menu with numerous options. Our thanks to the Front Desk at the Hotel Eiger for recommending it to us. We would have loved to try one their many selections of beer, but then we would have collapsed right there for the night. The dining room was authentic Swiss and very pleasant. Exhausted from our trek, it was particularly beneficial that it’s adjacent to the Schilthornbahn Cable Car Station back to Mürren.

Well, Gimmelwald isn't what it once was despite the ooohs and aaaahs. On a normal day in summer or spring you actually need a RESERVATION to eat here, even if there are just two of you and you only want a quick sandwich at one of 10 open tables. And never mind that the service people don't even speak German. All English here. Oh, and don't get me started with the kids doing nothing but staring at their cell phones. Gimmelwald has become just an Instagram photo. Not even Walter's place gets any business because, omigod, it's up the hill a little from all the action. Rick Steves, I'm afraid you ruined this one. Better to wander around Lauterbrunnen's upper valley if you want to see how people live around here. Or get off the train to Wengen at Wengwald and wander up to Leiterhorn. And, if you really must have a restaurant, rent an e-bike and go up the Lauterbrunnen valley past Stechelhorn to the Berggasthaus Trachsellaunen for something special, especially the valley view coming back home.

Don't know if it was the spectacular view, the weather, the hiking we had done or the food; but this place was great. Nice menu, well prepared food adequate wine and beer selection.
