Cataract On Paterson - Launceston

Quite like the pub next door and apparently this place provides the meals for them. We ordered the "seafood basket". Waited over an hour for it and watched people who ordered well after us get their food. Wondered how long it actually takes to drop crumbed bits in a deep fryer with chips. When we did finally get it, (for $22) it was a sad, cheap little frozen food pack from PFD or somewhere, the one "scallop" was a punched out piece of (probably) skate flap, the three "prawns" were glued together processed cutlets, one calamari ring and a tiny piece of (probably) basa fillet, chips, a blob of bitter weeds and nice tartar sauce. We checked out the menu out the front the next day and probably won't bother, some of the locals are happy to have the food in the pub, but not go into the restaurant. On the upside, the lamb shank looked (a shoulda moment) really good and the parmies looked great too.

Booked late for a Sunday night; they were busy but fitted us in. One of the best meals we've had in a while and though not cheap, pretty decent prices ($38 for fillet, two sides and sauce). Will be back when next in Launceston!

While not at the top end of restaurant pricing in Launceston, Cataract on Paterson is reasonably expensive. However, the food is beautifully prepared and presented and the staff are very well trained and attentive. We were happy to pay a premium price for a delicious meal in a quality setting.

Cateract on Paterson is a Launceston favourite of mine. A group of 8 of us went for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The cocktail menu is wonderful, the food is always delicious and beautifully presented, and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. The only drawback is they can be slow to bring out the food - but this isn't something that concerns me.

I've been here 9 times now and have never had a bad time! 10/10 would reckonmend to anyone wanting to try something new or looking for a nice place to eat! They have a great range of food and the cocktails are killer!! :)
