The weekly specials are fantastic, and Chef Brenda crafts mouthwatering dishes using fresh, local vegetables and seafood. It's much quieter during the weekdays, so I highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends. Be sure to save room for dessert, as they are made in-house! If you're in the area, they also offer charming bed-and-breakfast rooms that feel like museum pieces. I absolutely love this place!
I had a wonderful dinner with my family at this charming, homey restaurant last night. Although it has a cozy feel, there's plenty of seating for everyone. We began our meal with the oysters Rockefeller, which were served in a generous portion and had fantastic flavor. Although the oysters were a bit rarer than I typically prefer, I couldn't resist devouring three of them! For my main course, I chose the stuffed rockfish accompanied by creamy Parmesan risotto. It was absolutely perfect and also came with a Caesar salad. After our meal, we were even invited to explore the upstairs bedrooms, as I believe it's an inn. This place is rich in history, and I'm really glad to see them thriving!
I had an incredible lunch at Lancaster Tavern! Upon entering, you’re transported back in time and warmly welcomed with genuine Southern hospitality. The tea is delectably sweet, the staff is friendly, and the food is absolutely satisfying. Since the Northern Neck is famous for its oysters, I decided to try the Oyster Po' Boy. It featured soft bread, crispy oysters, and sweet slaw. I also ordered sweet potato fries, which were perfectly seasoned and came with a side of honey. My dad opted for the Lobster Pot Pie; although it looked more like Lobster Bisque topped with puff pastry, it was divine. Packed with large chunks of lobster and a hint of sherry, it was creamy and delightful. Lunchtime wasn’t busy, but they suggested making reservations for dinner, especially on weekends. Enjoy!
Great food in an amazing historic building. Plus the courthouse, clerk's office, and old jail is amazing. A beautiful small town treasure. The bed and breakfast rooms are lovely. And the character of the old building is well-respected. A historian's delight.
What a gem. Called with no reservation and scored a charming room for the night. We also had a separate sitting room and luscious bathroom. Full of charm, hospitality, comfort, romance and you cannot beat the price. Hearty brunch options for the next day were also included. And the food was delicious. Although we were only passing through for the night, I would relish coming back for a longer stay.
