It's been over 10 years since my last visit, and I was pleased to find that the atmosphere remained warm and inviting, reminiscent of a steamboat. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, I do have some concerns regarding the room we were assigned. I understand that since we booked only four days before our stay, we may have received one of the last available rooms. Unfortunately, it was an older room on the second floor with peeling wallpaper, stains on the carpet, and subpar appliances like the microwave and fridge. Despite this, I would still recommend staying here, but I suggest booking well in advance if you want a better room. I should mention that we didn’t try the food at Huckleberry's restaurant, so I can’t comment on that.
I won't be returning to this hotel. The pillows for the king-size bed were smaller than typical pillows, the sheets felt like sleeping on paper, and the sink and shower drains were slow, leaving me standing in water while showering. Additionally, the room had a very musty smell. It was the worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had.
Been going for decades. Beautiful inside and out. Gift shop, restaurant, tavern, pool all inside. Outdoor gazebo, lake, ducks, fish, barbecue, lounge chairs.Rooms: Gorgeous rooms. Many choices. 3 floors.Food drinks: Food is wonderful! Drinks are great. Delicious chocolate chip cookies set out all day, plus a large water dispenser. Mornings are tea and coffee set out. Restaurant inside tavern.
However, this time we encountered a few disappointments. The check-in process took an unusually long time and felt a bit chaotic. It seemed like the agent was new, and while I'm all for giving someone a chance to learn, he checked his Apple Watch multiple times and appeared to second-guess the experienced manager. The cleanliness of our room also left something to be desired. There were stains on the bathroom door, hair found in the bed, and on the tub ledge and soap dish. Additionally, the towel rack came loose from the wall. After putting fresh socks on my kids, they turned black within minutes. When I brought these issues to the manager's attention, he apologized and acknowledged that it was unacceptable, promising to investigate. When the maintenance person arrived to address our concerns, I was surprised when he asked if he should clean the stain—of course, yes! I noticed that when we saw room service in the hall, the staff only had a broom and dustpan with them, lacking a vacuum or a mop. The floors should ideally be mopped or at least wet-swiffered regularly. My sleep wasn't the best either. I woke up twice in the night feeling hot, and the bed wasn't the most comfortable. The air conditioning was set to auto at 69 degrees and didn't kick in quickly enough. Afterward, I checked some reviews and saw that they were mixed. Typically, I don't like to complain or seek compensation. However, as a loyal and returning guest, I felt it would have been nice if they had offered something. The manager did stop by our room to check in, which was appreciated. We’ll give it one more try in November. Rooms: Usually nice Nearby activities: Plenty for kids Food and drinks: Great local options
