Want to make a reservation before we return for the season, but the time difference between Hawaii and mainland makes difficult.
Usually Chengdu Taste Lanai is delicious and satisfying. Tonight they failed. We ordered 3 dishes for take out. 1 dish was not what we ordered. We always order Toothpick Lamb. The lamb pieces were unusually small. Next time we'll eat in to assure our food is satisfactory.
Very good 4+ stars. Dumplings are fantastic (I want a vat of the sauce). Tantan noodles are a little sweet, little spicy, chewy and delicious. Beef and chile stir fry is very tasty (and spicy) very tender beef. Popcorn chicken is not sauced (so drier like an appetizer), but very flavorful. Will definitely visit again and try more dishes!
The marinated cucumbers were tasty, but be aware that they're sweet vinegar with a lot of garlic, so make sure you know what you're ordering. The toothpick lamb was delightful and had a nice chewiness to it. It might have been the least sweet meat we tried, and it was slightly spicy despite our request for mild. It was definitely one of my favorites. The Kung Pao chicken with peanuts was flavorful, and everyone appreciated it. The beef and broccoli was decent, but the quality of the beef wasn’t the best, and it was the only dish that didn't get completely finished. The chicken fried rice was a hit and the only rice option we had, as the main dishes don’t come with it. The rice was filling and easy to eat—nothing particularly special, but certainly enjoyable. Our pickiest eaters loved it! For dessert, we opted for sorbet with raspberry and mango flavors. Overall, the food was excellent. We noticed hotel staff dining here alongside smart tourists eager to explore the area a bit. We will surely return! As a bonus, the salt and pepper shrimp came highly recommended. We chose not to order it because we prefer grilled to fried. The fries looked really good, but we would advise against the popcorn chicken; we heard it comes in a small portion and is mostly breaded.
The lamb skewers were fantastic, and the service was outstanding.
