They are specialized in food from Huancayo wich includes Pachamanca (food cooked inside the ground with hot stones), Patasca (delicious soup with withe corn cooked thru all night), papa a la huancaina (potato with yellow chilli sauce), quinoa, trouts, etc. Tip: Try to go before 1pm, otherwise you will have to wait due to the affluence of clients. In addition, try the tumbo juice (kind of a passion fruit)...you will not regret it!
While visiting Peru for the first time, my Peruvian hosts took me to this restaurant because I said that I would like to taste some good authentic Peruvian food. According to my hosts, the food served here is from the Peruvian Highlands. It was Sunday at lunch time that we went there and the restaurant was very busy with lots of local families obviously enjoying themselves. Considering how busy it was, I thought that the service was excellent. Each of the dishes brought out was both a delight to the eye as well as to the palate. I really had fun finding out about each dish from my hosts and tasting something completely new. Photos of some of the dishes we had are attached to this review. For either someone new to Peruvian food or anyone wanting to enjoy a good Peruvian restaurant in Lima, I would highly recommend this one.
Recommended by a taxi driver from the mountains for his guinea pig. Massive queen outside the families, considering that this place is in the middle of nowhere and it is a Sunday afternoon, can only mean that the food must be amazing. We seemed to jump the line and got a table in just 10 minutes. Average prices 47 Sol for guinea pig.
Lively, sizzling, vibrant... this place always exceeds my expectations. .. doesn't matter that a papa a la huancaina costs 20 soles... it's all worth it!
I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador (1980-82) and ran a rabbit and cuy (guinea pig) project. So I felt an urge for cuy and on the recommendation of Tripadvisor and, reconfirmed by a local taxi driver, decided to head to Huancahuasi. Nice place, well run, friendly staff. The appetizer (coquetas del valle) was the highlight of the meal. My wife's meat dish (churrasco a la plancha) was mediocre at best. My cuy was so-so. I would not go back but it was a decent option that I do not regret.
