Gray Dog Diner - Lakewood

I voiced my concerns about wanting to focus on front-of-house training, but I was told not to return the following day. The person who was supposed to train me would be occupied training someone in another department, and the other cook was absent, leaving me without any training support. This morning, I received a text firing me and saying I could pick up my two days' pay in cash. When I arrived at the diner, I found both cooks and a dishwasher working. This not only confirmed that I was misled but also highlighted a double standard. If a second cook was available to ensure a prep person could train properly, why couldn’t a dishwasher be present for an actual front-of-house cook to receive training without interruption?

This has been my favorite little diner since I moved to Lakewood three years ago. However, it seems they've recently hired a new cook, as the portions and quality have been inconsistent during my last three visits, and everything has been burnt! Today, the food was almost inedible because the mushrooms tasted like charcoal. I think I'll take a break from this place for a while.

What a hidden treasure! I just dined here with three kids, two teenagers, and my husband, who is a food enthusiast, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The only downside is that we live out of state and can’t visit regularly.

This place is amazing! Even a simple breakfast of eggs and toast is outstanding, but don’t miss out on the corned beef—I had the Eagle Breakfast, which includes everything. If you order toast, it comes with a delicious house-made jam that generously spreads across the bread. The atmosphere is wonderful and cozy too.

The owner and staff are exceptional. As a regular customer, they always remember how I like my meals prepared. The service is polite, quick, and the place is clean, making it a wonderful spot to unwind.
