The Burger Experience - Lakeland

Smokey Bones in Lakeland, FL, serves exceptional BBQ! I had the pulled pork while my husband opted for the pulled chicken; my dad enjoyed the ribs, and my mom had a delicious bacon cheeseburger. Everything was scrumptious! We kicked off our meal with skillet cornbread as an appetizer, which was both sweet and delightful. The sides we tried were all fantastic: coleslaw, fresh corn, steamed broccoli, and baked beans. They offer all the classic BBQ sides you would expect. There were also four different BBQ sauces available at the table, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate. For dessert, we treated ourselves to banana pudding and chocolate cake. The portions were huge, making one dessert perfect to share between two people. Both the pudding and the cake were rich and indulgent. The service at Smokey Bones was friendly and attentive.

I visited with some friends and had Courtney as our server. She truly entertained our group, and every recommendation she made—starting with the delicious sexy margaritas and ending with the amazing strawberry shortcake sundae—was perfect. We all plan to come back and will definitely be requesting her every Friday!

Everything we've tried from the menu has been impressive. Be sure to ask for Courtney; she'll take great care of you! The cocktails are impressive as well!

My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch while heading to Walt Disney World in the Orlando/Kissimmee area. I ordered the 1/3 lb BLT with coleslaw. Both were decent, but nothing to get overly excited about. My wife, who is a bigger fan of BBQ than I am, said her beef brisket was tasty but a bit dry, and while her mac and cheese had a good flavor, it was too thick and not creamy enough. However, she did enjoy the ribs, which were very tender and fell right off the bone. The service was excellent. Overall, we consider this place average, as there are several other spots we believe offer much better BBQ.

We both ordered the brisket platter, which was cooked to perfection and had a wonderful crust. We didn't even need any sauce thanks to its delightful smoky flavor. My wife picked broccoli and coleslaw for her sides, while I opted for fries and baked beans, which are among the best in town, packed with generous pieces of burnt ends. We enjoyed iced tea with our meals. Our server was amazing! Be sure to check the website for daily specials to save some money, but don't forget to tip your server based on the full meal price before any discounts. We live on the South side, but the drive is definitely worth it. You won't leave feeling hungry or disappointed!
