It looks like a dive bar but take a leap of faith and venture indoors where you’ll discover a truly wonderful, lively restaurant. Not alone is it really cosy friendly but it also has a lovely outside space at the rear if you like to eat al fresco. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive yet they’re unobtrusive: a hard skill to master. Now to the food which, for me, was the star of the show and that’s saying something when you consider my comments about the staff. I started with chorizo in honey followed by roast octopus potatoes in a garlicky broth. The chorizo was flavourful and peppery but the honey cut through any excess piquancy and really mellowed the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between sweet spicy and wolfed it down in no time. The octopus however was the star of the show: a beautiful piece of fresh, fresh seafood bathed in a buttery, garlicky broth with a scattering of chopped parsley and cracked black pepper. I would have loved some fresh to mop up the juices but, as you know, Portuguese bread is generally an afterthought. That’s my only gripe…..and it’s not with O Caseiro….so I mopped up the juices with lovely baby potatoes. I love, love, love this place and will make it my business to return…..…regularly !
My husband and I came across the restaurant by chance. We were on our way from the airport to Lagos and spontaneously stopped at O Caseiro for dinner. And we didn't regret it, because our expectations were certainly exceeded. There was a very delicious starter and afterwards we have chosen octopus and fish as the main course. The owner and waiters were super friendly and responded professionally to all our special requests. We had an extremely delicious meal, great portions, reasonably priced as well as top quality. We ordered vegetables and salad with the fish And fried potatoes. Everything was prepared with love, which is why we're super happy to come back.
This used to be a great place to eat but has really gone downhill rapidly. The meat dishes aren't too bad but the fish is worth avoiding. The staff can't be bothered to do their jobs so service is not a great experience. All in all I won't be returning and it's the closest restaurant to us.
This place does not look anything from the outside but you step in and there is a lovely, clean, welcoming restaurant. The food was great. I had Duck rice and my husband had the beef steak in pepper sauce. Well cooked and tasty. Carafe of red wine was 6 Euros! Very good value all round. Lots of local Portuguese which tells you something.
Good food, reasonable price, nice setting. Good outdoors sitting. Watch for it on the road, the sign is covered with flowers, difficult to see.
