Ellis Cafe - Lacombe

We were eager to dine at this charming cafe as the scent was delightful. We arrived at the cafe at 11:50 and they had a reservation but asked us to return at 12:30. When we arrived at 12:30, we stood there for ten minutes before anyone acknowledged us (the kitchen door was closed while we were waiting). Eventually, the chef came out and asked us to leave and wait without providing a specific time. It was disappointing to experience such poor customer service, especially considering the cafe's reputation as a hidden gem in central Alberta.

We took a drive to the Ellis Bird Farm a little Alberta gem we had not visited for several years. After a walk about at the farm on a warm summer day, we decided to stop for lunch in the sun on the patio of the Ellis Cafe. While the service was a bit slow, we were not in a hurry. The young waitress bustled cheerily between tables as fast as she could. The food was fresh and tasty. And the prices moderate. It was extremely pleasant and we would certainly dine there again. In addition to the outside patio, there is indoor dining in a charming old farmhouse.

Service was efficient but not friendly. Portions were small, the chichen/pear wrap was tiny and soggy. Food was expensive for what was served. Outdoor seating was really nice on our nice day. Picnic tables are available if you bring your own picnic lunch.

This restaurant, located in the countryside and open from spring to fall, is also a bird sanctuary and petting zoo, making it a great destination for families with young children. The restaurant is situated in an old house but also offers outdoor seating. The menu features good food and there are plenty of attractions for visitors of all ages, including an animal museum. Known as Ellis Bird Farm, it is located east of Blackfalds, approximately 15 kilometers away.

We had a great time at the restaurant enjoying a pot of tea, homemade pie, and a charcuterie board big enough for 4 adults to share as an appetizer for only $16! We then had delicious and generous salads. The Mousse Trio and baked goods were all delicious, and we got to enjoy all of this while watching birds and squirrels in a lush green setting.
