Outport Museum and Tea Room - La Scie

We arrived early this morning and we had a nicely prepared breakfast by Valerie. She was generous with her knowledge of the area and we were able to have a great day touring the local coves and harbours. Her husband was on his way fishing so we made plans to return for a well prepred cod dinner supplied with the catch of the day. Could not be more authentic or a tastier dinner. Great charming location matched with honest hospitality. Our favorite dining experience so far on our holiday.

My husband and I enjoyed both a lunch and a dinner at the Outport Tea Room. The tearoom offers local Newfoundland fare. The menu varies and is posted on a small blackboard daily. I enjoyed the best macaroni and cheese ever, and my husband was very happy with the fish cakes. Another 'must sample' is the partridge berry pie. Valerie, the cook and hostess, and her husband, Larry, offer local knowledge. The latter also loves to share his passion for the history of the area. You may be lucky enough, as we were, to be entertained with traditional Newfoundland songs as Larry and friends will often engage in an impromptu 'jam' session. Wonderful in all respects.

Had the good fortune to have 2 dinners there. One night, the Jiggs dinner, the next we had pan fried cid. Both were delicious. It is a very small restaurant, so advise reservations for dinner. Breakfast and lunch are also served. If you are really lucky, you will have the opportunity to be included in one of their music nights: a magical, fun experience!

This is a quaint tea room with excellent local food and friendly owners. The museum was even able to give us some history for looking up my family in the area plus other local sites to see.
