Food was spot on some creative appetizers. Great value I ate left overs...for days. Waiter was SUPER nice and friendly. Will definitely go back on my next trip. Would be great for a small group when you're tired of the fish and mexican options for dinner.
If you're a fan of North American supermarket Chinese food, you'll probably find Nuevo Pekin quite acceptable. Glutinous sauces, tasteless fried rice, and overcooked meat seem to be the standard fare. With so many excellent seafood restaurants and good Cal-Mex or Tex-Mex food available, I...don't see why anyone would choose to eat here.
An old style typical western Chinese restaurant with a decoration from the 80's with no update. The food is bad and old in the same way as the decor. The fried rice didn't have a single vegetable, was bland and tasted like leftovers from last...week. The spring rolls were greasy and bland. The duck was immersed in plum sauce and fat and tasted rancid, it's skin completely soggy. The seafood chow mein only had small shrimps and tiny scallops and was completely mediocre. When I asked for chilli oil (a typical dressing in Chinese restaurants) they did not have it. The waiter offered to prepare one for me.... which consisted of arbol chile in cheap oil with a hint of soy sauce. The mongolian beef had an after taste that is typical of very low quality beef and the sauce again was a complete disgrace. I really regret this visit, would not recommend this restaurant at all.
We ordered the appetizer plate which was a pile of thickly breaded and likely twice reheated/refried pieces of unidetifiable meat, 2 shrimp and 4 very greasy eggrolls. It all looked and tasted old and bland. The main courses were seafood chow mein and the seafood...combo, thinking that it would make a nice change of flavour from the mexican, excellent way of preparing the catches from the sea. They both were a big pile of colourless, grey , tasteless food in thick sauces and with just a hint of seafood in both of them. The waiter was very friendly, but we can not think of another positive thing to say about this restaurant. Reheated leftovers would have tasted better.
Always wanted to try this place as I have been coming to La Paz for the last 6 years and was seeking something different. Came here after dinner had the appetizer plate which was the real deal. I'll go here again.
