Buffet Teide - La Orotava

A great sunny terrace for a drink whilst waiting for the bus. Food looked very standard and inside seating not inspiring.

We ate here because of the lack of alternatives (we checked out the Parador restaurant next door but found it cavernous, un staffed and about as unwelcoming as can be imagined! but it seems as though that must be what it trades on, having a monopoly on food in the middle of this national park. Our sandwiches were adequate at best and the terrace to eat them on over crowded, uncomfortable and the tables littered with dirty crockery and the detritus of other people's meals. This is such a well visited area and so crowded with sight seers (even parking is a challenge that it seems a pity not to provide a more pleasant, spacious and relaxed cafeteria experience.

This is a typical cafeteria in a tourist zone. Service is non existent and the food dicey. Actually the soup was ok and the views spectacular.

Considering there is little choice of eateries here in Las Canadas Del Teide it really is not that bad. The shop next to it is pretty good too. We popped in for a snack with tea and coffee and the service was fine. You can take the buffet option which looked fine. It included meatballs and substantial fare. I think it is 12EUR for adults.. Most people of course are queuing for the cable car so are not so concerned with the buffet. We got there on a Monday on the 9:15 bus from Puerto De La Cruz before 11:00. At the top of Mount Teide there are no eating facilities but there are rest rooms. Then there are the trails including the one to the summit if you have a pass.

We stopped there to freshen up before the climb to the volcano. All dishes are prepared fresh and by hand. The toilets immaculate but be aware the prices are comparable to the height of the place very very high !!
