However, the cocktail and red wine selections felt a bit overly elaborate, though there are some good options among the white wines. The restaurant is quite noisy, with small tables feeling cramped. The combination of ambient noise and fellow diners intruding on your conversation detracts from the overall atmosphere, especially for a restaurant that delivers such high-quality food. I will definitely return, and I plan to sit at the bar or outdoors for a more relaxed experience. I hope they consider removing a few tables to reduce the cafeteria-like vibe.
The atmosphere was incredibly loud and almost frantic. The service felt rushed, and the timing was off. We ordered some nice cocktails, but the salad arrived almost immediately. It would have been better if the food had been served a bit later since we also ordered a bottle of wine, which was opened and poured while we were still enjoying our drinks. There seemed to be no reason for the hurry, especially on a Saturday night! The food tasted good overall, but both the salmon and steak were not cooked to the requested temperatures. I actually had to send the salmon back, but they recooked it and even removed it from the bill. This was my fourth visit, and unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience.
This was our first visit to the restaurant after following it for a year since it opened. We noticed a new head chef has been there for about two months, and it has definitely made a difference! We give it an "A" overall because the food, from presentation to taste, was wonderful. The General Manager and the new Head Chef were both charming, earning another "A" in our book. As we sat by the glass kitchen window, we were impressed by the hardworking and dedicated kitchen staff. What caught our attention even more was that the new Bar Manager is a woman who previously worked at San Francisco's renowned Crenn restaurant. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience in San Diego, and we will definitely be back!
If you are going as a couple, don’t expect an intimate experience. The couple’s tables are shoved against the far wall, packed in closely. You are closer to the person sitting next to you than your partner. The food was great and our server was outstanding, but not close to the value we experience at restaurants in the same price range. Really wanted it to succeed since I have lived in Bird Rock for 40 years, but unless they do something about the ambiance and table separation, they will have a tough go in the future.
Wonderful service and experience! Attention to the details were seen and much appreciated! Food was exceptional!!
