Przekaż informację zwrotnąOriginally from Houston, I come from a city with a significant Vietnamese population and probably the best Vietnamese food you can find outside Vietnam. I would lie if I said that Vietnamese food was not my favorite kitchen and that after more than 3 years in Colombia a good bowl of Pho or dish of Bo Luc Lac are some things I miss most about at home. Quality Asian restaurants are difficult to get in Colombia, and Vietnamese cuisine is simply not available. The misguided interpretations of Vietnamese/Asian foods, which cranks WOK out daily, are a bad substitute for the real thing. So when I heard about Thom Ngon and her Vietnamese/Asian inspired menu, I made it my mission to see how her kitchen was measured. Seriously, if you want to scratch this Vietnamese Itch, that's not the place. The train we ordered was not even near the cheap and tasty baguette sandwiches for which the Vietnamese are known. The chicken had no taste, and I think they used half a glass of Mayo on the sandwich. Seriously, the sandwich looked more like a chicken salad sandwich than a train Mi, and there were no cilantro or crushed carrots on the sandwich. The Mayo was of doubtful quality and was not even used near the Vietnamese style on the real deal. Pretty much every other plate followed suit. Only badly executed reproductions of what someone should be the idea of Asian foods. I know this review is a little hard and trust me, it hurts to write it. I am all about people who are trying to expand the food scene here in Bogota and I have tempered my expectations regarding food. I know that there is no sceptical Asian community here in Colombia and that high quality Asian food is expected with what you will get in places like Canada and the USA will not happen. If Thom Ngon had even a modicum of authenticity, I would have given him some Leeway. But not; it was only bad kitchen. I would choose the Colombian Asian food in WOK before I walk again in this place. It was so bad. Also the beer served in Thom Ngon, from the Moonshine brewery, is probably the worst Colombian microbrewery that I had to try the immutation.
We had a great meal here. Great food, tasty beer and a really nice atmosphere at the place (sorry, the only people in the restaurant at the time) The staff was very friendly and happy to book a taxi for us at the end of our meal. Definitely recommend!
I almost missed this restaurant. It is located on the second floor of CRA 12. Glad I looked twice because my friend and I had a great meal here. When you go up the winding stairs, you will see an open kitchen, about 8 tables and an open window. To be clear, this is a restaurant that you go for food and not necessarily the atmosphere. However, the service is top notch. Our server, Chucho, welcomed us and went through the menu in almost perfect English. I ordered the Banh-Mi and Katsudon. The Banh-Mi was a great, with a sweet and spicy sauce with pork and pickled vegetables. The Katsudon was a chicken stable over flavoured rice. That was also very good and tasteful. After our meal, our server showed us the new bar in the back that resembles an elegant speech. It was a complete contrast of the very causal meal we have just experienced. When it opens later this week, I look forward to having a cocktail there.
