Edwin the owner is friendly and goes out of his way to help travelers. He speaks good English and has excellent travel information in the area including boat schedules, moutain Trekking and can arrange motorcycle rental etc. An oasis in Kupang to relax, recharge and enjoy.
I stayed at Lavalon on three separate occasions during my time at Timor. Edwin was well informed about the entire Timor area and he made sure I had the information I needed to travel around. The private rooms have great hot water pressure that I did not experience in Timor elsewhere. Treat yourself to the window to get a great view of the sea. He is a great cook and makes the most delicious mango smoothie on this side of Nusa Tenggara!
We stayed a few days in Lavalon during the pandemic period (Sep-Oct 2020). Edwin, the owner makes a lot of effort to ensure that his guest feels safe and clean without losing their comfort, such as installing the automatic system to wash manually with sensor. We are traveling in Indonesia during the pandemic and Lavalon is certainly one of the hotels/guest houses that offers such an automatic system. The rooms are air conditioned, also with ceiling fan, hot water is really hot, the bed is very comfortable with clean cotton sheets. Lavalon can also great homemade fresh meals and juice, such as squiden in green sauce, grilled fish, etc. Its mango juice is so delicious, fresh and light, without the addition of sugar. As backpackers we feel comfortable, welcome and safe during our stay in Lavalon Kupang.
Fantastic place, super chill atmosphere. The owner is incredibly thoughtful, will bring you tea or coffee all day, and his food is the tastiest in Kupang. You get to sit and watch the ocean from the common space, and the surrounding area has anything you might need markets, restaurants, bars, shopping areas as well as the beach (or a pier for those not very fond of sand). The obvious choice for those visiting Kupang, don't miss it!
We arrived to Kupang without any expectations rather than find a tacky clean hotel for overnight stay. Followed by Lonely Planet recommendation,we poped in Lavalon,a really clean, new and charming hostel at the coastline. Choose the room on the corner overlooking the beach and some green bushes,if you can. It is stunning. We enjoyed chatting with Edwin, the owner, and some of his local piers, all of them living legends. It was a magical unexpected and pleasant sunset evening! Will totally recommend it!
