Sushi Chán - Kumamoto

It was recommended to visit this cozy sushi bar at the hostel (1 minute walk from Nakashimaya) I'm staying what a great decision! The owner/sushi cook Mr. Yoshida speaks fluent English after working overseas in Germany and Australia, travellers will have no difficulty to order (menu is also translated into English). I ordered a sushi set menu of cooking selection, which is plentiful at a very reasonable price of ¥1500. The taste is excellent! The large sushi roll is the Italian style packed with fillings of salad etc. with Parma ham, the small roll is cream cheese with avocado, a fresh and unique take. Mr. Yoshida also recommended the Waygu-Rind nigiri, who was delicious. Another thing that this was my first 5-star review ever was how friendly Mr. Yoshida is, it was a pleasure to chat with him. Come by when you are in the area to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and great sushi!

Excellent sushi and reasonable price. The owner of the restaurant speaks good English so no worries about miscommunication. Cosy atmosphere and generally a very good culinary experience. It's like a hidden jewel in town. Definitely recommend!

The best place in Kumamoto. In the two weeks we were here, we went at least 4 times. Amazing saki and nigiri. Amazing sushi chef. Can't wait to come back!

I found sushi bar by chance when looking for a restaurant that was open after 10 pm. The food was very good, the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and I much enjoyed talking to the owner. He spoke very good English and has spent several years in Germany.

Shohei makes amazing sushi! The sake selection is good as well. He also has a great personality and is fun and easy to chat with in English. Would recommend to anyone!
