Ouzeri Ilios - Griechische Taverne

Good fresh and well cooked dishes, excellent value for money, good service. I'd recommend the 10 teller meze which is great value. Grilled octopus was also a highlight.

This house has for many years harbored Greek restaurants. After a short intermezzo of Italian cuisine this place has turned Greek again very recently. “Ouzeri Ilios”, as it is named now, consists of a single huge dining hall, separated into smokers’ and nonsmokers’ areas by glass. The tables and the distances between them are pleasantly large and due to the textile flooring this restaurant is not noisy. The dining hall is quite modern and sparsely decorated by a few paintings, but free from typical Greek objects. Despite the Greek music played softly this restaurant lacks atmosphere. The menu was comprehensive and included all the dishes on expects at a Greek restaurant. Since we visited “Ouzeri Ilios” only a short time after the business had been started, two pages of the menu were devoted to dishes of reduced, i.e. laughably small prices as a special attraction. Apparently this had the effect envisaged since the restaurant was full when we visited it on a Saturday for a very late lunch. The regular prices indicated on the other pages of the menu seem by no way exaggerated either. At our table, service was provided exclusively by the sympathetic tenant of the restaurant, who was, of course, equally stressed as the rest of the staff due to the large number of guests they had to cope with. Although we had selected dishes of the special offer for only five euros ! they comprised a big salad along with bread served as a starter. The salad, however, was deceiving because it was only sprinkled with ridiculously little dressing on top and therefore lacked seasoning. In contrast, our main courses, “Briam” and “Kokkinisto” were very good indeed. They were even nicely dressed on large plates and the portions were large despite the price reduction. If “Ouzeri Ilios” succeeded to sustain this level it would deserve to exist longer than its numerous predecessors at the same spot.
