Went down to stay for the weekend with some friends who live in the area year round, and told them we wanted a place where the locals get their food. This is a must stop for anyone trying to get an amazing breakfast plus maybe add a delicious cocktail to wash it down. The island coffee comes with the local-made kill devil hills rum and was perfect with my bagel. The French toast and jalapeno bagels (separate bagels) were the perfect ratio of crisp and chewy on the outside but fall-apart tender on the very inside in some form of magical deliciousness that defied physics. Highly recommend the cinnamon sugar butter as an alternative to cream cheese if you're like me or get a generous smear of cream cheese if you're like my wife. I would have eaten that butter with a spoon. It's that good! Check out the attached pictures to see how amazing everything looks. As a great bonus, the owner was tending bar when we ate, and she was the absolute nicest server/ bar tender/ owner you could want! Great service, great recommendations, and all with a smile. This is the place to start your day in the outer banks!
The bagels were good. My husband and I came here for breakfast to sit down and eat before we headed back home. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the bacon and egg bagel I got was unfortunately overcooked and was a little dry. My husband got an omelette, and that was okay. I do wish that we had just gotten some bagels to go, though. The staff were great for being as busy as they were in such a small place, I will say. I would definitely go back for just the bagels to-go.
This place can be hit or miss. This was my bagel today, on the wrong bagel with like NO salmon and so poorly thrown together. Thankfully, they said they would refund my money. Their staff is very to the point with little to no warmth or customer service skills. This all being said, their French toast bagels are PHENOMENAL. I usually get their bacon, egg, cheese bagel with French toast bagel, which is delicious!
We got our bagels to go. We got the Jersey Morning (cream cheese, capers, lox, tomorrow and red onion) and the Owner Approved (onion bagel, scallion cream cheese, spinach, egg, cheddar, and bacon). Both were great! The bagels are massive, so it was well worth the price. A great quick and easy breakfast. The staff were nice!
Barrier Island Bagels is a great place for a quick takeout breakfast OR a sit-down experience with mimosas. I really like that they offer both. We ended up sitting down and getting a sit down experience, but in the future, we would just do takeout bagels. We ordered the biscuits and gravy to share, which we both were disappointed with. It didn't look appetizing and the biscuits were dry and hard. The bagels however, were fantastic. Maybe that's why it's called BI Bagels and not BI Biscuits. The rosemary bagel was a bit unique and absolutely delicious. I got it with the Jersey (smoked salmon) sandwich and loved it, although the cream cheese was pretty overwhelming as you can see in the picture. A bit less of that and more smoked salmon would have been perfection.Ambiance was fine, but nothing to write home about and service was lacking. Not because the server was bad, but because she seemed to be the only one working and it was busy. We often sat with no water and had to ask the busser for our checks. Again, I just feel that the takeout experience is more up our alley for the future.
