I have visited Cheeky's multiple times and have sampled a variety of items on their menu including fish tacos, meatloaf, liver, hamburger, eggs, quiche, soup, and dessert. The fish tacos were delicious, as were the meatloaf and liver dishes. The hamburger was made with real beef but could use some additional seasoning for added flavor. The restaurant only offers battered fish, which could be seen as a downside, but I found it to be mild in taste. The eggs were cooked to my liking, the ham was thinly sliced, and they did not have peameal bacon on the menu. The quiche and soup were both excellent, and the dessert portion was very generous. If you are a fan of Christopher's, you will likely enjoy the atmosphere at Cheeky's as well.
Whenever my friend Judy and I have a Legion meeting in Cambridge, we always make a pit stop at Barnes Casual Dining (also known as Christopher's) in Sunnyside for breakfast. To our surprise, it has now been rebranded as Cheeky's Bistro. Thankfully, they still serve breakfast in the morning, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered my usual ham and eggs, which were cooked perfectly - the eggs were over easy, the ham was nicely browned, and the toast was just right. The only disappointment was the homefries, which were not homemade but rather frozen potato cubes. Breakfast options in this town are competitive, and I consider myself quite particular when it comes to this meal. Good fried potatoes can make a big difference in a restaurant experience. Judy opted for the French Toast and was impressed by both the portion size and quality. Since it was the grand opening of the new restaurant, we asked for a copy of the menu to consider for future visits. The menu looks promising, and we were assured that the french fries served with their fish n' chips are not frozen. The new owners have merged the two previously separate rooms, which will be advantageous as they plan to host live entertainment evenings in the future. The staff was friendly, and despite the disappointment with my homefries, the breakfast was good enough to make me consider returning for dinner. I was pleased to see Liver Onions on the menu, which is a big plus for me. I'll just have to remember to skip the homefries next time.
To respond to therealjimmeyer, the homefries ARE NOT frozen...sorry you were disappointed but putting false statements on here makes your review unfounded.
I have been to Cheeky's several times and have tried several items on their menu - fish tacos, meatloaf, liver, hamburg, eggs, quiche, soup and of course dessert. Fish tacos were tasty, meatloaf and liver were also excellent. Hamburger was definitely made from real hamburg however it needed to have a few spices in it to jazz up the flavour. They only offer battered fish which is definitely a negative, but I did have it and it was very mild tasting. Eggs were done as requested, ham was thin and they didn't offer peameal bacon. Quiche was excellent and so was the soup. Dessert was a very generous amount which is always a good thing. For all of you who are comparing it to Christopher's, I am sure that you will feel "at home" at Cheeky's.
