We were there for a paint nite and therefore only had time to order mains so I had the Kyle cajun shrimp pasta and DH had the Korean Poke Bowl. Both extremely flavorful. The poke bowl is quite a big serving. Service was very quick and the meal has now erased the memory of a failed fish and chips main that I had there last time. Prior to that all experiences had been positive but that one was a fail.
It was serendipity that I fell upon an advert for a Tapas Night at Bistro merlot, had never heard of the place before. Myself and a friend went, with interest and curiosity. it wasn't "tapas" as one would expect from the word, more like a multi-course tasting menu.As others have remarked, it's in a strip mall, but it's a quaint little place; kinda plain but clean. The service was great, but keep in mind the menu is identical for every table, so it's MUCH easier to manage, but each table was served each course at the same time. The menu theme was called "Oriental"; food was okay, nothing spectacular, best dish was the tuna with green mango salad. the dumpling, spring rolls and fried ice cream could have come from the frozen aisle of the grocery store, very ordinary and unremarkable.Would I go here again? I would consider it, small local businesses need to be nurtured and encouraged and restaurants in the West Island, while getting better, still leave much to be desired. It wasn't horrible, but i would likely try a regular meal instead of one of their theme evenings to get a better impression of what they offer.
Heard many great comments about this restaurant so decided to finally try it out! Very quaint and vibrant atmosphere with two levels . Lots of choices on the menu -salads, pasta, meat, seafood, vegetarian too. We ordered the Bacon/jalapeño soup with pastry crust top. Delicious and creamy-not spicy at all. For mains we had the Lobster Mac n Cheese as well as the Jambalaya. Large portions of both so worth the value . Lobster Mac n cheese -creamy and good portion of lobster. Very filing. The jambalaya was smokey and spicy as it should be! Delicious! For dessert we shared the Toffee brownie w/ vanilla ice cream-wow so good! Great wine list and prices were decent as well the beer/cocktail choices were good as well. Fabulous service by our waitress Kellie! Highly recommend to try! Will definitely return to try out other menu items. Bon appetit!
Excellent presentation and delicious (we had the Korean & Thai bowls) - a little slow to get dessert menu & dessert afterwards (seemed to be only one waitress) but worth the wait. Incredible coffee as well!
Looking forward to an evening of quiet dining, a comfortable group of three, we were offered a table right at the open kitchen - service area. When we requested a more quiet area, there were three tables open, we were told THOSE were only for four people. ??? A table for three is the same as a table for four. Don't know that we will try to go back with SO many choices in the area. We did have an amazing time two minutes away where we were welcomed with open arms.
