When we arrived, the host was extremely helpful and offered us a room with a four-poster bed. He even provided us with some complimentary toiletries, as we had not come prepared for an overnight stay. The room and bed were fantastic, so comfortable. His dog Lottie was beautiful and really won me over. The house was charming, filled with antiques and decorative touches. The shower was excellent and there was a lovely attention to detail throughout. The breakfast was outstanding. If I could give it a 6-star rating, I would! Thank you, Andrew.
Stayed here for only one night if you visited a high time in the red snow, but could have stayed longer. andrew and bridget the owners where very friendly and helpful! our taxis booked, made us a beautiful pot tee at the arrival to enjoy before. a roaring fire with the daytimes! if they want to escape the rat race in amazing environment, they spend one night or two here. the aladins cave of curiosity will keep them occupied for hours with books ornaments and all kinds of unusual things from all over the world. there is also an antique shop to browse. I bought a couple of bargains here. the four posterbed was amazingly comfortable and the breakfast was first-class, with plenty of choice including fresh berries and a delicious cooked breakfast. will come back next time, I have to flee for a night. thanks andrew and bridget for a wonderful stay.
We took our Daughter, her Partner and Baby for Sunday Lunch. This was their first time at Chalk and Cheese and they were so impressed with the informality of the reception room and Bar. The Restaurant is a mix and match of furnishings and crockery....But this is all part of the charm of Chalk and Cheese. Sunday Lunch was excellent and extra portions of meat and vegetables were offered without us asking. This was not the first visit by my wife and I and it certainly won't be our last. Our thanks to the owners and staff for making this a memorable occasion. John Anne@ Burrettfield
It's a really interesting place but I've just done Christmas lunch here at the suggestion of a friend and the bill for seven adults came to over £500 that's more than £73 each for just the basic set menu. It wasn't even as though...we'd even added lots of drinks to the bill. Put in context that's more than I spend on food and drink at home in a fortnight and quite honestly it wasn't worth it! That experience was enough to put me off ever going back there.
We recently stayed here for one night and were pleased to have been given an upgrade. We stayed in the workshop, which was cozy and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed a delicious cooked-to-order breakfast. The food was of excellent quality. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
