Last year Valoroso Foods was caught tampering with the dates on their products.
I had to re-edit my review What I thought was going to be an epic Italian store turned out to be sort of a disappointment.
20 min before closing, in to get olives but they were not in stock (Must try the garlic/parsley/lemon Vertrano Olives!)I moved on to order cheese, the employee was helpful at first with some simple questions I had asked, but quickly seemed impatient and short answered after a few questions and watching me take my time. Examples were me asking if there was any natural cheeses in the back fridge, her answer was immediate and short-tempered "no." instead of 'no sorry, unfortunately going to be about a week or so yet." etc...The employee has dark black hair with some tattoos on her right arm. She was on more than one occasion been observed as short-answered and displaying attitude, not helpful when asking details about several products as well. I simply received a short attitude sterile service, to put it frank.Furthermore, when I asked for specific cheese to be sliced I was met with "..we're not allowed to slice it"...which I know is factually wrong, having been a long time customer and ordering this cheese in the past, I am aware of how cheese can be cut or sliced. The correct response should have been 'I recommend cutting because there's a chance this cheese will crumble after I begin slicing it..which would you prefer?'...not the response I was given. To be honest, she is not a good fit for the type of job needed at Valoroso. Unfortunately, in my opinion she needs more training with customer service and people skills, based on the fact I own and operate a business. She would greatly benefit from Claudio's mentoring, who is a very good example of excellent customer service and people skills as an employee at Valoroso - making the customer feel important and being knowledgeable about the many products sold here. He also is very good at taking the time with each customer, unfortunately this employee did not do this and wasn't showing any interest in offering helpful knowledge or being friendly. It was not the normal experience I have coming in to Valoroso - which is usually great and fun and pleasant. Still a good place to visit despite the lack of great service, but not a great rating today for these guys. Next time lets aim for better. Strongly hope to see Joe make some strong effort to improve the people skills of all his staff. Get that Claudio to teach his skills!
I can't believe it took us this long to find this place. We were looking for a specialty Italian cheese (Burrata), which they get every two weeks. Stopped by for lunch and were glad we did. Very clean, well laid out store, with lots of glass front cabinets. They have a wealth of Italian Specialty products (coffee, cheeses, meats, pasta, deserts etc) and a range of prepared sandwiches, salads and pizza. We had two sandwiches, an espresso, a latte, and a Caprese salad. Can't remember the total, but it was inexpensive for the quality of the food. The food was fresh and well prepared, the coffees were excellent. We will be back, and not just for the Burrata.
