Busy restaurant, good food, and friendly customer service. The wait for our food was a little longer but it came out hot, fresh, and just how we ordered it.
Thai Lao is the newest restaurant to hit the west side and is seemingly doing very well with great food and friendly service. Though they only been open since August 2011, the few people I've talked to who were waiting for an open table were repeats and said they come there quite often. Thai Lao is a small restaurant, seating about 40 people. When we got there it was a full house with a few people waiting outside. Lucky for us, tables were finishing up and we didn't have to wait long for a table. We went there about 7pm, peak time I know but I noticed while we were there people just kept streaming in. There was never an empty table. The service was fast and friendly. I later found out the owner was the one who serviced our table. The other servers also served our table. Making sure our drinks were food and checking on us several times through out our meal. Let's talk food. For appetizers we had the calamari and stuffed boneless chicken wings. The calamari was so tender it just melted in your mouth. The stuffed chicken wings had a lot of flavor that I didn't use the sweet sauce that accompanied the dish. For our main, I had the green curry with seafood. The seafood in the curry was shrimp, squid, mussels and fish and the seafood portion was very generous. I ordered medium and it had a little punch to it but it was very flavorful and one dish I'd highly recommend. My friend's father also ordered the green curry except he ordered it with chicken, he also chose medium. He hadn't had Thai food in over 20 years but he was very pleased. His companion who's never had Thai food was a bit apprehensive and ordered the broccoli with beef. She really liked it a lot. My date ordered the spicy deep fried dish and he enjoyed his as well. Of course we all tasted each other's dishes and were very pleased with all of them. We also ordered sticky rice, a must have when eating Thai food on my opinion. Though Thai Lao is still in it's infancy I highly recommended this restaurant. It's one of the best Thai food restaurants that I've been to in awhile. I suggest making reservations though. I will def make reservations the next time I go. Towards the end of our meal, Vince who was one of the servers who also attended to our table told us that they had opened last year and he pointed to our original waiter and told us he was the owner. Very refreshing to see an owner involved and caring about his business. Sorry for the long review, simply put: great food, friendly and fast service.
My husband ate here for the first time 5 days ago and has wanted to go back ever since. I see why. Dinner was wonderful! My 3 year old even enjoyed the tofu- that has never happened before. Very kind service and reasonable prices. It's hard to find anything to complain about.
This is the new best Thai on the Leeward (West) side! Amazing spring rolls and Tom Sum (Papaya Salad) Bathroom so clean you could eat in it! Found it last week, added it to urbanspoon; and have been there 3 times in the last 10 days!
