I dared to ask the waitress if there was a free table for us, and she just decided that the professional way was not to answer us even when I asked if there was place outside or inside, or maybe later. I spoke, she ignored me, with a little shake of the head. I believe the food is great there, but such impoliteness will keep me and my family away for ever from this place. PS: few minutes after found a nice table outside at Gerberstube, much better staff.
A brilliant example of a cosy, welcoming peak into Swiss life. The dining room is warm and inviting in the winter, but with plenty of seating outside in the summer too. The food is simple and hearty and it's the perfect place to taste a slice of home style Swiss cooking. I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Cordon Bleu there's a choice of several and they're all cooked perfectly and generously sized, when paired with some of the local beer or a glass of regional wine it doesn't get better than this.
After a daytime visit to Rhine Falls in early May 2017, my wife and I sought-out a good restaurant to spend our last evening in Switzerland before returning to Pennsylvania. We stumbled on family-owned Restaurant Schäfli. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the staff was kind and welcoming. In addition to finding a menu in German, the hostess (and owner) also offered us a menu written in English to help us in our meal selections as my high school German was limited. The food was fantastic! The cook, the owner’s son, even came out of the kitchen to greet us ask us about our meals. In short, the meals and selection of drinks were wonderful and the hospitality was outstanding. Anyone looking for quality dining at a reasonable price in Schaffhausen will be very pleased with Restaurant Schäfli.
We were in Schaffhausen and down by the river needing something to eat. We had seen this restaurant and liked the menu. Specialities when we visited were cordon bleu and spaetzle. Between us we tried the raclette cordon bleu and the onion and mushroom and ham and cream spaetzle. All three meals were delicious and good value too. Our waitress was wonderful. The restaurant is not large but is worth visiting whether you are eating or just taking a beer. We will return next time we are in town.
We had the Cordon Bleu Raclette and spaetzle. These were both some of the best food we've ever eaten. They don't speak English but they do have an English menu. But you don't need it...get the Cordon Bleu Raclette and spaetzle. I also had a Schaffhausen Reisling (white wine) which was excellent. We ate outside but the inside was exceptionally charming also.
