I know the type of protein burnt ends are supposed be is a controversial topic. Will be back and definitely recommend.
I have extremely high expectations for BBQ, and that 's intensified when I am in Kansas City.Chef J passed the would I eat here again? test for me.This is the BEST brisket I 've found outside of Texas.The pork belly burnt ends were also really good.The ribs are well cooked, but are also central TX style with lots of black pepper, which I don 't love. We scraped the pepper off.The baked beans tasted like they were out of a can, but the other sides were okay. I didn 't see tea (sweet or unsweet) which was odd. I always drink tea with BBQ.As some of the reviews said, the ordering system is kinda weird. The person taking your order is also prepping all of the meat for each order. So it 's pretty time consuming and makes the line move pretty slow. They need a different system.The location is perfect and it just feels like what a KC BBQ joint should look and feel like.
This is the best craft BBQ spot in the metro area—make sure to visit before it becomes a widely-known gem! Chef J may be new, but they have an impressive understanding of the craft. I’ve had some of the finest brisket here, and the Beast Mode sandwich (as shown in the picture) is one of the largest and most indulgent BBQ sandwiches I've ever tasted. The mac and cheese topped with brisket was equally delicious. You can really tell that the owner is passionate about their craft, and it definitely shines through in the food.
Consistently the best BBQ in Kansas City! The brisket is sliced to order, thick-cut, juicy, and incredibly tender. The bacon burnt ends are exceptional—so delicious that they limit how many you can order unless you call ahead. The mac and cheese is rich and creamy, surpassing even your mom's or grandma's finest recipes. For dessert, the banana pudding and peanut butter pie are both perfect choices. My only recommendation would be to add Diet Dr. Pepper to the fountain machine! Many BBQ places have off days where the meat can be disappointing, but I've *never* encountered that at Chef J!
I discovered this restaurant on Google Maps, and it had excellent ratings—which it truly deserves! I ordered the pork plate, and both the pork and burnt ends were outstanding, along with the sauces. We especially loved the sausage! The sides were incredibly fresh, and the pickles were a great touch. This was the best BBQ we had during our trip!
