I have enjoyed eating here for almost 6 years. The sign on the door says closed for renovation, reopens March 2016, the interior is unchanged and as of June 10th, it is still closed. I am saddened that they are closed, what appears to be permanently.
We've been coming back here for a few years - birthdays, dates, hungry. The decor from the previous business - Atlantic Canada fish and chips of some kind - is dated and out of place, as is the music - old time gospel. The buffet area looks pretty cobbled together, but the flavours and creations are sublime. If you can accept what they are offering - a quirky, authentic taste experience, then the delightfully weird setting makes you feel like you've discovered something. I prefer dining experiences like this to slick but forgettable chains with 'safe', popular cuisine. BTW they offer a punch card - ask.
I stopped to pick up some Tom Yum Gai to go. My first time trying this restaurant. I asked how large the large order was, she reluctantly got the container....I was thinking for 14 bucks this soup must be outstanding for such a small portion. Wrong! A handfull of unpeeled tomato chunks and less than a handful of chicken. No lime leaves, no coconut milk....the broth tasted like skim milk with a spoonful of Tom Yum spice stirred in. The place was filthy...I checked out the buffet....empty....and some guy wearing an outdoor jacket bringing half full bowls of noodles and stirring it into what was congealed in the pans! The kicker is, the evening buffet starts at 5....I was there at 5:30. I guess they were just carrying on from lunch. Absolutely disgusting..never again!
Went about a year ago found it worth coming back. But, on sept11 I was not happy. The smorgasbord had 5 empty containers plus a couple of more looked like they had been sitting there all day. Very few of containers were labeled wonton soup had no wontons, had to ask just to get some noodles brought out. Won't be back.
