My Aunt resides at IRT Belconnen and after we had been out to the National Museum to the David Attenborough VR experience she suggested we return to the Birrigai Cafe for lunch. What a lovely lunch we had! My son had a double Beef burger and chips, I had a Thyme Chicken burger with chips and my Aunt had Barramundi with Asian vegetables. Great sized meals, great prices and they were delicious. The Staff were all very friendly and helpful and the cafe only had a few vacant seats. I would definitely recommend this cafe as a great place to eat and spend time with your family.
We really like it here. While maybe not the most fashionable place in town, the food is great, the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. With views of the lake and dog friendly to boot.
I frequently eat out, and I must say, this was the worst customer service experience I've had in the past year.Firstly, after I ordered the food and sat down, a waitress came and told me that the table was reserved. The booking was in 45 minutes, I reassured her that I'd be gone within 20 minutes. She said "But the people who booked the table are already here."I thought that was strange of them to arrive 45 minutes early, but I complied and she pointed me to another table. When she brought the food out, she circled the whole cafe twice and couldn't find my table number in plain sight, and I had to flag her down to tell her that the plate on her hand was in fact my order. After I was done, I noticed that the previous reserved table still had no body on there. She basically lied about the customers arriving at the reserved table to just kick me out of the table. So I pointed that out to her. She basically ignored what I said and just said "but the table is reserved", then proceeded to completely ignore me. All I wanted was an apology for her lying earlier but she was too arrogant and ignorant to care.So this was the worst customer service experience I've ever had in the past 12 months, and I definitely would not recommend this place unless if you absolutely had no other choice and are willing to put up with arrogant and ignorant staff. In terms of food, it was okay but not good enough to put up with the terrible service.
We've eaten at Birrigai Cafe a number of times for lunch, but on Saturday night we decided to try their evening menu, which appears to be a monthly rotating menu. This evening we started with a 'Bacon and Garlic' bread which was different but quite nice, then a 'Surf and Turf' item with steak and prawns appealed to me, while my wife chose a 'Duck Orange'. Both were delicious. We finished with a very rich mud cake and a gluten free orange and almond cake; again very nice. The menu caters for older diners, not surprising given its location. The food is not adventurous or spicy but is quite delicious and not too expensive. Well worth a visit.
