Now it 's just white plastic party tables with no decorations except for some really cheap Mexican/Southwestern style streamers from the ceiling. The little backroom with the couch and TV is gone. It looks more like a hospital cafeteria now. The drink menu is very, very short and there is no food. They 've been working on their kitchen for months. Staff was unfriendly and has this aloof June Lake residents only vibe. I could tell the cashier was bothered that I was there. I was the only customer. I walked in and he was in the back and had to come out. Unfriendly and monotone. Then a local walked in and his demeanor completely changed. I live in Mammoth, I get it. Out of towners can be incredibly annoying... but let 's face it... you have no business and have ruined what was once a great place, so drop the attitude. The coffee was fine, but I might try the place across the street even if it isn 't a coffeehouse. Unless this place drops the attitude, redecorates and/or has amazing Mexican food, it isn 't going to last.
Warning!!! Under new ownership. I had to change my 5 Star review to 3. On my first visit I walked in and things just didn't feel right. Coffee is what I wanted. Coffee. Not a burrito or taco or anything other than coffee. I drink one cup a day and I want that one cup to be amazing. I was slightly disappointed. My friend ordered the hot chocolate which she seemed to enjoy. The interior is not coffee shop like at all. Tables are plastic and not comfy cozy like the OG Trout Town Joes. No Rest room available. On my second visit, when I walked in, the gal at the counter actually asked me to go outside to order. I ordered my coffee outside by the grill where they make the food. No coffee house appeal like the previous Trout Town Joes offered. I guess I am spoiled by Coffee Houses. I guess I was spoiled by the previous Trout Town Joe experience where coffee was the main focus. I didn't try any of the food offerings. I did have an americano with chocolate syrup. The espresso was less than. The chocolate syrup was sugary syrup. I didn't finish it.
Avoid this colossal waste of time. No hot food during the last weekend of June mtn. Waited 10 minutes for this 2 man show (no one in line) to tell me they only have 2 things on the menu. Kitchen being remodeled but no sign indicating that. Avoid.
A comfortable, homey, place with good coffee, dogs meandering about, a pot bellied stove that serves as a woodburning fireplace, couches, overstuffed chairs, good music and overall a nice laid back mountain vibe. It's not Mammoth-and that is a good thing.
I come to June Lake at least 4 times a year, and stop in at Trout Town Joe for my morning coffee everyday. Today I had terrible service, I payed for my drink and right before the was about to pour nonfat milk I said oh wait I 'm really sorry can I have a different milk, I 'll pay for it , he made a rude face at me and poured it anyways, and told me that I had to pay for both milks since he already poured it. I understand that I made the mistake of not initially asking for different milk, so I would have happily payed for both. However, I did not need a young boy to be rude and condescending about it. From the moment I walked in he was rude, and I felt as if I was annoying him. Also he did not use a thermometer when steaming milk, that is definitely a health hazard and how does he know he didn 't heat it to an extremely high temp. I love June Lake and will be finding a different place for my lattes from this point on.
