The meat was tender, a little pink on the inside, with just a hint of smoke flavor and a nice little crust of seasoning on the edges. The sweet potato casserole was outstanding, moist but not soggy and the pecans were a nice touch. The red beans rice were just hot enough. Great service, too – I got takeout and walked in, placed my order and walked out in maybe five minutes. 5/5, no complaints, I will definitely be back. Glad to have a place like this in Johnstown.
Any man that calls his BBQ, Texas BBQ, better be ready to hear the truth when real Texan walks in. I walked in and Randy and family met me at the counter with Texas hospitality. I asked sevaral questions to see if he truly was indeed from the south. He passed the test. Now on to the the meat. Although, Im not much on having my ribs wet 'covered in sauce ' with an open mind I reached for the half slab I bought and broke a couple ribs off. Texture was great and the taste was all the way to the bone. Excellent. I had to wait until I got back to the hotel in Indiana, so I would have some elbow room when I got into the brisket. Like I said, I like my sauce on the side so I can really taste the love put into the meat, I jumped on the brisket with both hands. Smoke was moderate and not over bearing, seasoning was laying out on my taste buds and making me smile. Now I travel a lot for work and its always nice when feeling home sick to be able to sit down and have a meal that you can picture yourself at home watching the kids chase the goats in the pasture or just the sound of you hounds bawling because they are ready to hunt. This is how I felt while trying to put the entire pound of TEXAS brisket down in one setting. I cant tell you much about the BBQ sauce that was put on the side for the brisket, because I never stopped to try it before the meat was gone. So if your looking for the taste of Texas, but dont have time for the 20 hour drive. Stop in and see Randy and family they can take you there for less then 20 bucks. Sorry for the terrible picture, it dont do the justice the place deserves. Brisket Excellent...Red 's Texas BBQ. Thanks yall.
I'm a Memphis girl so BBQ is in my blood! I was so excited to see this place opening! Beef brisket is so tender and just melts in your mouth. The sweet potato casserole is absolute perfection! (Don't tell my grandma) Pulled pork is fantastic! I bought a rack of ribs at lunch time to take home for dinner. The ribs heat up very well in the oven on low and tasted like they had just come off the smoker. I was a complete mess after eating them, but with any great BBQ, it ain't good if you don't have a mess! The service is amazing. Walking in, you are treated like a long time friend! So friendly! Sad to see you closing for the winter, but I'll be there when y'all open in the spring!
My wife and I tried this after reading all of the wonderful reviews. It was absolutely amazing! Chicken was very flavorful, brisket melted in your mouth, baked beans were an excellent side, and sweet potato casserole was absolutely stunning. Great people and fantastic service. So sad that you will be closed over winter seeing as I just discovered you. Please keep doing what your doing. Hands down best bbq I've eaten.
Amazing food and great people! Always a great experience when I stop there. Food is always spot on and delicious especially the pork chops! I'd give 10 stars if I could. Definitely a must try, nice having something fresh and different in this town!
