A local discussion group in my neighborhood suggested Teppan as one of the Japanese restaurants in Jersey City to try. The food was good, but not the best in the city. However, it is a budget-friendly option compared to other Japanese restaurants in Jersey City.
We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was excellent. However, I was taken aback when the hostess chased after me to say I hadn't tipped enough. I had given 15% and explained this to her, but she still seemed pleased.
We came to this restaurant for the hibachi experience with a fairly large group for which we had a reservation. However, the host did not want to seat us because we were missing one person. They claimed they had a group of 15 coming, but isn't the whole point of a reservation system to assign seating for larger groups? The culinary experience itself was disappointing, as the waitress did not seem happy and was not attentive. She seemed annoyed when we weren't ready to order and confused our orders when we finally did. We were also disappointed that the tip was included, as the service was lacking. The hibachi cook did his best, but the food was oversalted and he mixed up my order. Overall, the experience was not enjoyable and we will not be returning.
I and my family came 830 clock on a Saturday, we were told that it will close soon, but on their website it says 11 clock. we have another table in the Hibachi grill and we were 6 of us to celebrate the birthday of my father; our commands were taken (when they screwed up our order, they gave us huh, but we asked for a steak; repeated our order three times, but still inaccurate) and while they wait for more than 30 minutes, another group of 3 people came and the manager went to our table and said they needed to add 3 more people as they can sit 10. we were all surprised because we chose this place to have a family dinner and were about to start with our hibachi and they will add another group to our table!? of course we did not agree. was pretty sure that they are just lazy to open another grill and get another chef, as we were 6 and our grill was quite full. our cook was nice and entertaining, he tried his best to make us happy despite what happened. we never got a water replenished, never offered a dessert after eating, short. we never have a real service except our cook. salute to our chef I forget his name and to the other coworkers especially to the lady manager, they need training and know for customer service.
Visited with family during our stay in Jersey City. Overall service was excellent. Hibachi chef was very good and interacted with us. We all had Filet steak which was good but I’ve had better at other hibachi restaurants. Portions were very large and everything else was excellent.
