Maligne Lake's View Restaurant - Jasper

It's a self service so you don't expect anything extraordinary. Soups, sandwiches, salads, pastries. many tables occupied by people who do not eat or book the table for later or who play cards! without the staff finding anything to say. a shop and toilet with deplorable hygiene.

My husband and I had lunch here before getting on the boat. It is a cafeteria style with very tasty selections. The prices for lunch were very reasonable considering there is nowhere else to eat. They had many types of salads, homemade soups, and baked goods. The views were beautiful.

As many people have commented that the food is pricy here, however you need to remember this restaurant is located 45 minutes from Jasper town, at the top of a very long hill. Transporting everything needed to provide your meals here has to be trucked in, not cheap. To the food, soups and sandwiches are always fresh, stand at the start of the line and watch how quickly they replace the food from the kitchen. If you just want a snack there is a very large selection of baked goods (the Raspberry and Chocolate chip scone is a must). The restaurant is self serve, but there is a large number of tables. Apparently the new owners are planning to make changes to the building to ease the congestion when a large number of tour buses are there.

One minute this place is full then suddenly empty as everyone rushes to go on their timed ticket boat trip. So if it's busy I'd come back in 10 minutes or watch out for the boats coming in. Tours seem to drop people about 30 minutes before their boat trip, we didn't take one so could eat when everyone went.However, it's not a cheap place but there is no where else to go so it's pay or go without. I wish tour guides would warn you to bring your own! Plus no air conditioning but if you can get a window table you'll have lovely views across the lake.

We did the skyline trail and return famished. Each person had a soup and we were all blown away. I had the beef stew which reminded me of home and a blueberry scone. Yum! Many sandwich and salad options but sweet pastry. Coffee too naturally. Lovely views of the lake and mountains. Clean bathrooms. No wifi though :-(.
