Upon stepping out of the train, the difference from central Tokyo is apparent, reflecting in the variety of restaurants available. Among the limited options for vegan and vegetarian dining near Tachikawa station, Hoccori Cafe stands out. Despite lacking signs or visuals indicating its vegetarian nature, this cozy spot offers a menu mostly in Japanese and limited English spoken by the owner. While only a few main meals are vegan, such as spicy sesame ramen, tomato curry, and assorted vegetables, there are also vegan sweets and snacks available. I chose the ochatsuke, a comforting dish of rice, seaweed, and beans in hot tea water, with a side salad. It was a delightful experience.
This restaurant is conveniently located within walking distance of Tachikawa station. They mainly serve vegan dishes (the owner will inform you of any dishes that contain dairy or eggs), but the majority of the menu is vegan. We visited for lunch with our occasionally rambunctious 4-year-old, and the owner was friendly, accommodating, and served our food with a smile. The vegan dishes we tried were delicious and satisfying. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area! It is worth noting that the restaurant's address is not listed as "Tachikawa," so it may not show up on Happy Cow when searching for vegan options in the area, but it is only an approximately 8-minute walk from Tachikawa station.
I recently had lunch at Hoccori and ordered set menu A, which included curry, salad, a drink, and a delicious dessert. I was especially impressed by the dessert. I plan to return with friends next time. They also offer a dessert set menu.
This was a place I’d been wanting to visit for a long time but my meat-eating friends preferred elsewhere. Until now! I could enjoy going with my friend who doesn’t mind vegetarian vegan food and I was not disappointed! The aunty running the store was not wearing a mask the whole time, but other than that, the food was prepared per order and the shop is homey.
It's a nice little vegetarian place, they can manage some English, but more importantly, will point out the items that are vegan. The food was simple and tasty. It seemed to have been run by a single lady (though she managed it pretty well), would recommend if you're in the are and looking for vegetarian or vegan food.
