The decor was done well it had a great vibe. Service was just okay but drinks were incredible. It's very pricey be mindful they add 18% gratuity regardless of how many people are in your party. Be careful so you don't double tip like we did.
If I could give half of one star, I would! I must express my deep disgust for the awful experience I endured at the Apothecary Bar in Jackson, MS. It is with great disappointment that I recount the appalling customer service and terrible attitude displayed by bartender Kate Fortenberry. Allow me to provide a detailed account of the distressing events that unfolded during my visit. As a graduate student and working professional, I arrived at the bar with my cohort of 17 individuals, eager to patronize the establishment. However, any anticipation of a pleasant evening was shattered when I encountered an issue with the drink I had selected. It was prepared far too strong for my taste, prompting me to kindly request a replacement. Yet, to my utter dismay, Kate's response was nothing short of dismissive, condescending, and utterly devoid of any inclination to find a solution. Her attitude was a shocking betrayal of the hospitality one expects from a bartender. As an individual with expertise in the art of mixology, Kate possessed the knowledge and ability to remedy the situation. She could have easily offered to adjust the drink by adding specific ingredients to balance the flavors and salvage the experience. Unfortunately, she opted for a path of coldness and rudeness, leaving me and my fellow 16 patrons with no choice but to abandon the establishment indefinitely. We vowed never to return as long as Kate remained a bartender there, for her demeanor tainted the entire atmosphere. As a representative of the state tourism industry, I enthusiastically recommended the Apothecary Bar as an outstanding and unique location for an enjoyable experience. However, this incident has forced me to remove it from my personal list of recommendations. It is truly disheartening to witness someone as inept as Kate occupying a role that demands exemplary customer service. My heart aches for the business owner and the diligent team members who strive to create a pleasant environment, only to have their efforts overshadowed by Kate's incompetence. This distressing encounter was not the first instance in which I experienced Kate's lackluster customer service. Such repeated displays of inadequacy cast further shadows on her suitability for the job. I implore her to consider pursuing an alternative career path since bars should embody an ambiance of coolness and enjoyment--qualities that she sorely failed to deliver. In closing, I must caution anyone considering patronizing this establishment to brace themselves for an onslaught of abysmal customer service. The experience was nothing short of repulsive, and I fervently hope that management takes appropriate action to rectify this appalling situation.
This is like the fallback spot if other bars are full or if you don't necessarily want to be around a lot of ppl. We chose the latter tonight. There was only one bar tender and she was a bit slow but picked up her speed as it became busier. The drinks are pretty good. If it's a strong, bitter, or sweet drink that's exactly what you're going to get. Didn't get to taste the food bc we were 8 mins past happy hour, oh well. Service can be better but then again it's automatic gratuity, so is what it is.
For general coolness, this place is worth a try. A great little bar hidden behind a vintage drug store with a creative bartender? Sign me up!
Worked in the restaurant industry for 13+ years and typically this place is somewhere I like to bring friends. Tonight was the worst experience I've ever had with bartender. Tonight we had (Ford? as a bartender. Conversation went like this: Me: hey how are you doing tonight? Ford: Fine, How are you? Me: Good, excited to be here tonight with some friends. Ford: no response Me: What is your name? (Asked twice Ford: no response Me: You doing okay tonight? What did you say your name was? I get it, I use to work in this industry. I know how it goes sometimes. Ford: Yeah it's really showing right now. What do you want to drink? Me: A HighLife and whatever gin drink you think is best, I trust you. Is everything okay? Ford: So you don't know what you want? You're going to leave it up to me? Me: Yes, I trust you. Is everything okay? Ford: You're just pestering me with questions. It's really annoying. I made the bar menu, why can't you read that? It contributed to be negative from there. Worst experience I've had in my life and I spent most of my career in the bartending industry. Made my guests and I feel unwelcome immediately from the start. Will take my business elsewhere from now on. I remember when Robert really cared about this place. I hate that it has been let go this way.
