I had been meaning to visit Alsancak Damla Restaurant for a long time, but I never found the opportunity. It’s a quaint spot on the left side of the street adjacent to the now-closed Doy Doy, one of İzmir’s oldest pubs. When the weather is nice, they set up tables outside on the quiet alley, which is perfect for enjoying a meal without disturbances. Of course, the tables outside are illuminated by street lamps, and the one above us flickered occasionally before turning off again (which was our preferred setting).
Located at the corner that connects Talatpaşa and Cumhuriyet Boulevards in Alsancak, Damla Restaurant is a true neighborhood meyhane (tavern). Owned by Mr. Fuat, who has been running the place for 14 years, he personally attends to his customers every evening. The menu is unique, and this establishment has a distinct character. For the hot appetizers, it’s best to chat with Fuat about what’s fresh that day, as he will recommend dishes based on the season. I highly recommend the liver, kokoreç, and the “poor squid.” The brain dish is quite ambitious, and the Müjgan and bohça köfte are great choices too. Since everything is prepared fresh on the spot, the service can be a bit slow, but Mr. Fuat’s warm conversation keeps you entertained while you wait.
Fuat babanin muhabbeti yeter !! Slice, yaprak ciger ve mezeler on numara. Sokak muhabbeti ariyosaniz kesinlikle gidin derim. Akabinde cila icin DoyDoya gecip iki bira atarsiniz
