Pros: Large grounds, beachfront location with a number of loungers and beanbags to sit on and a beach club bar, large rooms and decent WiFi. Cons: the beach bar plays loud music all day. the bar charges 200+ pesos for a cocktail (plus a mandatory 15% tip) prices which we rarely saw across the country. The breakfast was very poor, and the rooms are basic for the price. No mosquito net despite tonnes of the buggers, and to top it off the lock to our balcony didn 't work so it felt unsafe and no lock for the safe provided apparently you have to ask for one? It appears Holbox is in the midst of a huge overdevelopment, with as many souvenirs for sale, shops and ranges of food in restaurants as Playa Del Carmen, lots of loud bars, yet crammed into a few streets and being built on top of sandy roads without the consideration for proper infrastructure (there are no drains or paved roads). The first thing you 'll notice when you arrive on the island is a lot of part build concrete structures, littered with rubbish. When you get near the beach you 'll quickly notice that it smells awful. I got the impression that the island faces issues with seaweed, which has a pungent smell, but the smell of sewage on top is unmistakable, especially when that 's wafting over every few minutes. Unfortunately this completely put us off from even going in the sea, which was also a odd browny blue colour making it not very enticing. If you 're lucky enough to be there when it 's dry, then this is one thing you 'll avoid, but if not when there is a storm, as there is no drainage infrastructure everywhere floods when it rains, which turns sandy tracks into 1 3ft deep waterways. You then either have to call a 'Holbox taxi ' (off road buggies) or wade through the water. You 'll read that you need to bring cash as there 's no ATMs on the island, but it 's suspicious when the tour sellers dotted along the beach all have signs saying they take card and the bars do too. Everything is so expensive that you 'd burn through a whole lot of money there. We left after one night, which quite simply was more than enough. Not up to standard give this a miss.
I’m happy I chose this hotel for my holidays! It’s everything I wanted, the rooms have AC and fan, it is right in front of the beach. The food is really good and breakfast is included.
Top location for a day of chilling on the beach! Nice salsa music in the background gives you the perfect holiday feeling, good food and service. For a minimum spend of 500 pesos for a day you get a bed. Better than the clubs on the beach at playa Holbox! Service: 4 Location: 5
Adored the music played here. Some friends and I went kayaking nearby to watch the sunset and in the distance we hear this beautiful music that complemented the mood perfectly. The views were heavenly and the singing as well! When we passed by Zomay, we found out it was Natalia singing. Wish I could experience it again. Rooms: 5 Service: 5
Room in catastrophic condition. Narrow beds made of cut foam. Stinky bathroom that backed up, very poor cleaning. Everything was broken. Lack of storage. We didn't even have chairs for 4 people! My sons caught a huge case of gastroenteritis during this stay, following the lack of hygiene throughout the site. Absolutely not worth the price. I have traveled all over the world and have never seen anything like this. To avoid ! The beach is invaded by sand fleas, the beach club staff is obnoxious, slow, and it's overpriced with thousands of flies. Once again, everything is broken. NULL Rooms: Dark, lack of soundproofing, dirty, lack of equipment.
