Most of the bar/restaurants round the square were very busy but mainly limited to snacks, the Leffe bar was extremely busy but even then the service wasn't all that (we sat down at a table that needed clearing, waited a few minutes, young lad started to clear the table next to us, people sat down at that table and got served straight away) so we went round the corner and found this place. Which was disturbingly quiet but, as it turned out, a real joy. The menu is very limited (see picture) but the (charming) proprietor is making a real point of locally sourced produce done well and the food was excellent, the portions substantial (the smoked salmon was huge, the ham and potatoes delicious) and it was hard to fault. We even had pudding, which we rarely do, mainly cos she wanted the speculoos ice-cream, which was lovely. If you're around, give it a go.
Glad we found this place - we had a lovely meal there. It is run by a really friendly guy who knows how to cook and creates a really friendly atmosphere. He gave us some great recommendations for food and wine and we were not disappointed! If we go back to Bergues, we will definitely revisit.
Came here for an evening meal
Good food, delicious wine and friendly service. The waiter prepared an off menu meal for our son too!
