It was a favorite of me before I was locked. Beautiful old building with character bags. Friendly staff willing to guide you through the series of beers available. Not sure what you want, they will ask you what you like and make ace suggestions. Since Covid and one of the few places that take their responsibility seriously. Enter the side gate, not through the pub, directly into the beer garden. Before entering, you must provide your data and have taken temperature, then you will be displayed on your table. Beverages are served via table service and the invoice is completed at the end. The pub is run by Grain, who are an excellent brewery boardering Norfolk and Suffolk. They have a wide selection of beers to suit every taste.
Never been to Ipswich? Well, if you want a good selection of beer, on tap and not, plus sign beams and quiet corners (the best ways in the afternoon) you have arrived at the right place. Super backyard, decorated with off-beat poetry, if you speak short starters, for sunny days. If you're lucky, you could even catch live spoken word.
Great place, only no disabled-friendly tho can understand for such old buildings
We stumbled upon this place on a two day stop over. We liked it so much we went back on our second day! It is a lovely place to stop and catch your breath. We sat in the garden (met the friendly pub cat). Drinks are reasonably priced, served nicely and delivered to your table promptly. The friendly lady behind the bar was helpful, attentive and knew her stuff. On our second visit, we tried the cocktails 2 for £12 on Sundays, and again we weren't disappointed. They were just setting up for a poetry reading session, but sadly we didn't have time to stay. A pint of premium lager and a rhubarb and ginger gin came to less than a tenner. Both were nicely presented, especially the gin (fine slices of fresh ginger and lime included, lovely to sit and muddle whilst enjoying the sunshine). Would we go here again..... Yes, again and again.... Next time we are in Ipswich! Thank you
