This a great place to get some of your favorite smoked meats. I generally get the double smoked bacon and the Cincinnati brat. It is Hungarian style deli and the food is excellent!
We visited Thurns as a part of a meat lovers tour, and this was my favorite stop out of the four we did! We got a tour of the back, saw how sausages are made, saw the smoker (the owner apparently wakes up 2x per night to check on the smoker it's a true labor of love), and then got to sample many of the meats they sell. Ham Salad is what they're known for (which is really good) but we also tried things I did not think I would like (Beef tongue and Blood Head Cheese) but both were actually delicious! Definitely will be a repeat customer!
Thurns Specialty Meats is fabulous for your pork, sausage, German specify meats, cold cuts, and cheese. Thurns has been a family business in Columbus since 1886, first at Central Market, then on Greenlawn Avenue on the Southside. They smoke their own meat and cheese. The smoked cheddar is out of this world. They make all their own sausage and have many German specialties, including Braunschweiger, liver pudding, and knockwurst. They sometimes have beef products from OSU AG School. They’re only open three days per week, and for abbreviated hours (as of this writing, their website says they’re open Thursday 8a 6p, Friday 8a 6p, and Saturday 7a 1p AND IMPORTANT THEY ONLY TAKE CASH, but there is an ATM. Thurns is a true Columbus treasure for which you need to make a trip to the Southside to sample all their great products from a family business.
The place is so consistent and just a gem of the area. A classic.
