The pulled pork was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. The green beans were hands down the best we've ever had at a BBQ spot, and the mac and cheese was wonderfully creamy. The brisket tacos were a delightful surprise as well; the smoked brisket was juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor, and there was a generous portion in each taco. We will definitely be returning!
This is a fantastic local spot for BBQ. We tried the ribs and pulled pork, and both were excellent. The ribs had a nice smoky char and practically fell off the bone. The pulled pork was juicy and full of flavor, although there were a few small bones in it. The BBQ sauce was delicious as well. For dessert, we had the banana bread pudding, which was amazing—definitely get two if you don't like to share! We ordered around 5 PM on a Saturday, and they had already run out of mac and cheese and corn casserole, so plan your visit accordingly. We'll definitely be back and can't believe we waited so long to try this BBQ!
We ordered the family-sized brisket, which came with two pint-sized sides and a banana pudding. The brisket was incredibly flavorful (and I appreciated it even with my diminished sense of smell from a recent bout with COVID), and it was wonderfully tender. It wasn’t the dry kind that you have to drown in BBQ sauce just to eat—this was juicy and packed with flavor. The sides were unique compared to typical BBQ sides, featuring a bit of a twist. Per the recommendation of the woman who took our order, we tried the corn casserole and the pleasantly spicy green beans, both of which complemented the brisket perfectly. Although I’m from the west side of Indianapolis, I would gladly make the journey to the east side just to savor some Smokin' Barrel BBQ again! It’s the best barbecue I’ve discovered so far in the Indianapolis area, and it’s a family-owned business. Go treat yourself!
Like many others, I decided to visit SB after seeing it touted as the best BBQ in the state in a national ranking article. While I haven't sampled enough BBQ in the area to confirm that it's the top spot, I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is a straightforward, family-owned BBQ restaurant set in what appears to be an old community center. Despite the busy lunch crowd, the staff were friendly and efficient. The meat was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. I opted for the meat flight, which included beef brisket and pulled pork, along with corn casserole and baked beans. The sides were quite tasty, the meat was exceptional, and the price was reasonable at $15. My only hope is that they eventually find a way to serve dine-in meals on reusable plates instead of using takeout containers for everything.
The pulled pork and brisket were tender enough to be enjoyed without any sauce. The corn and mac and cheese had a nice kick to them, which we appreciated. However, we weren't fans of the slaw, as we prefer a sweeter version. Overall, the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. We would recommend it and plan to return in the future.
