There's a lot I don't know about artisan meats and cheeses, but the people there were so friendly and helpful. The products are worth every penny! We're having fun getting their focaccia bread and other fine breads, cheeses, greens, pickles and onions and making sandwiches, topping crackers, a pizza or pasta, or adding to an omelet. The possibilities are endless! Indy is so fortunate to have a place like this. Thank you, so much Smoking Goose!
Love the local selection and quality of what they offered. The staff was very helpful as the selection could be overwhelming and different from normal. Their recommendations was definitely what helped when selecting from the freezer sale. I also liked the little nook of merchandise! I 've seen smoking goose in many amazing restaurants and was glade to visit and get items from their store front.
If you liked Goose the Market before, you're going to love this new addition to their line up! They have expanded their main Dorman Street operations into the space that connects to the north (across from Rads Brewing). The new space is filled with a variety of items that include both their own packaged goods, their merchandise, and a number of other artisan products packaged and ready to go. But what makes this addition different is the smokehouse offerings. Here, you can see a counter that offers just about any kind of meat you may like that has been smoked for your convenience. I picked up smoked salmon (Lox) that I easily turned into a baked salmon (olive oil and oregano and heated for just a few minutes) that was full of flavor without the hassle of firing up a smoker/grill at home. They also had mackerel, prawns, octopus, scallops, and more in the display. The place also offers a wide variety of jerky. You can find a lot of meats from domestic animals as well as the seafood items I mentioned above. The line on opening day moved quickly with a steady flow of visitors. It did get a little crowded, but I assume that it won't be quite as busy after the initial opening, so you should be able to browse a little more easily. Parking is also easy since they have their own lot on the north side of the building. The place is easy to find with GPS, but be aware that it is located just outside of the downtown area where the interstates cut through. So, if you are coming from the east, use Michigan Street. From downtown, use New York Street to reach Dorman. Review #3610
I'm sure the market area is nicer, but I was not at all impressed with the small plates. When I hear Public Smokehouse, I'm thinking smoked meat sandwiches. What they offer for small plates are a variety of seafood dishes.. it just doesn't make sense to me.
I've been a fan of Smoking Goose since I moved to Indy a few years ago. I used to check out their warehouse sales, then they made the meatery but I didn't get to check it out cause of covid. Finally got to go. It's a small store but it's packed with goodies. The standout feature is the fill a box freezer sale. You literally fill a small or large box with as much stuff from the freezer for a set price (small $50, large $85). What an awesome deal! If you pack your box well you easily get well over the box price. I got to try several different things for much cheaper than usual. Wish they'd have such a deal for items in the rest if the store.
