They felt rushed as three different waitresses came by while they were still eating, asking them to finish up quickly. One waitress even swore at them, which made them feel uncomfortable. It was not a pleasant experience overall, as it seemed like the staff cared more about getting money than ensuring customer satisfaction. They do not plan to go back.
I usually love this restaurant, but today I was very disappointed. The selection of roasts was limited, with no chicken or turkey available by 2pm, and no roast beef either. The only options were roast lamb or a special chicken burger. I opted for the roast lamb, but when it arrived, it was pulled instead of roasted, and not to my liking. The vegetables and potatoes that came with it were fine. It was supposed to be my choice for my birthday, but it was not as expected. I believe that running out of roast meats by 2pm is a sign of poor management, and the lack of variety in white meat options was disappointing. Overall, my experience was very disappointing.
I have visited The Grey Mare for the second time and each time the young lady staff were extremely attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.
The environment was beautiful, as was the waiting staff. there were only two vegan options salt and pepper mushrooms with boiled rice or vegetables with boiled rice, both came with Chinese curry sauce, which I did not have a fan of. after I had asked if it came, on the side what it did, I went with salt and pepper mushrooms. Unfortunately it was very embarrassing, it was literally burned mushrooms with raw chopped garlic, a little raw green pfeffer and a bit earlyning wobble. no other spice, so I'm not sure where the salt and the pfeffer were in it. the curry sauce was very lumpy and it was served with long chalkshops. I have been vegan for 16 years, so I had many vegan options on non- vegan sites, some of which were terrible! but it is 2022, and many now offer amazing choice, so to offer what was essentially a plate of mushrooms and rice was a huge drop. especially since this and a softdrink costs £16. there was no dessert option, and a starter that was wooden and flat brot. I ate it and I didn't give a feedback at that time, I was with friends together and I didn't want to have any pleasure. I understand that the clientele is not mainly vegan, but there are many cost-effective dishes that can be spun on the hand without something special with objects. we also like to have delicious food that the salt and pepper mushrooms could make a little more effort. a shame.
This would have been a 5 star review as we were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our table. Three of the meals were spot on and the recommendation from our Server was very good indeed. Unfortunately the rump steak was a little overcooked...and yes, we should have complained at the time but we were short of time and didn't want to spoil and otherwise enjoyable time.
