I wouldn't dare handle wet ingredients like that in my own home, let alone at a restaurant. What on earth is wrong with this guy? Not only was the sandwich the most disgusting and unsanitary I've ever encountered, but the owner's aggressive attitude towards customers was alarming, and he genuinely seems to need help. You can't run a business like this! If he's behaving this way right in front of customers, I can only imagine what goes on in the back kitchen or after he uses the restroom. I recorded the entire ordeal so he can't deny it when I post it online. For the love of good hygiene, change your ways, put on some gloves, avoid touching your face, and for goodness' sake, wash any utensils that fall on the floor before using them again. Most importantly, put a smile on your face for the customers paying good money for a meal. You can be grumpy once they're gone, but at least pretend to be pleasant while they're there! Also, the parking situation is a nightmare! This place is disgusting, unclean, and the owner seems completely oblivious to the proper standards for running a restaurant. His lack of awareness regarding hygiene and his overall demeanor makes the experience even worse.
Personally I think this is the best addition to Huntington in the past 20 years. Incredibly authentic Italian food and best sandwiches in town!
Just moved to Huntington from Bay Ridge Brooklyn and by chance my wife and I walked by this place and saw menu items such as “shore road” and “67th street” (Places in bay ridge and dyker heights). What an amazing find!, if you are from Brooklyn or want authentic old school Italian products, treats and sandwiches this is THE place to go in Huntington. We are so happy we found this place that reminds us of Bay Ridge/Dyker and I was worried I would have to drive back to get a quality Italian sandwich, but this place definitely lives up to our standards. Rainbow cookies are A like villabate alba. Amazing food. Thank you
As someone who works in the industry, there's nothing quite like the excitement of wanting to try everything on the menu. Mercato Cucina truly captures that feeling, offering high-quality ingredients that are expertly prepared by skilled professionals. You can taste the care and dedication in every bite, even in something as simple as a sandwich. It's clear that Chef David has put a lot of thought into both the menu and the restaurant's layout, creating a space that is simple, charming, and inviting. This is straightforward food done exceptionally well. It doesn't get any better than this, and I can't wait to return whenever I'm in the area.
The most amusing part of my visit was when I asked for napkins while he was ringing me up. He looked at me like I had three heads and snapped, "Yeah, okay, I got it!" as if my request was completely unreasonable. It felt awkward, as if I shouldn't have asked at all—like perhaps he would have just given them to me without me having to say anything. My sandwich cost between $17.00 and $18.00, and it seemed like he just rounded up the total. This made me wonder if he charges sales tax correctly. I paid in cash, so I’m left questioning whether he pockets that money or actually deposits it. The whole experience was quite strange, and the owner’s responses to reviews are just as off-putting; he doesn't deny the facts about not wearing gloves or the way he rounds up sales tax. It's honestly pretty gross. The way he interacts online is reminiscent of how he treats customers who eat his... questionable sandwiches. Just a heads up, Google asks for ratings on service, atmosphere, and food. Good luck with that!
