Always a nice spot when I go visit Houston. Good variety of Chinese-Vietnamese cuisine. Hours are convenient. Probably the best radish cakes ever. Also their noodle soups are always solid.
This place is so meh I had high hopes for this place but the food and the service is so bad! Workers didn't know what they were doing and they kept bringing the food to wrong tables also the food just tasted very bad! Never coming here again!
Tan Tan is a true authentic Vietnamese restaurant. It was very busy when I went and packed with locals. The menu is quite extensive with a lot of different options for everyone! Food: House Special Rice Cake: This was probably my favorite dish that we ordered. It is an appetizer, but it's a must get dish for sure. It's like a scrambled egg topped with rice cakes, fried onions, spring onions, and paired with a sweet and savory dipping sauce. The egg on the bottom was slightly crisped because of the frying aspect but still nice and fluffy. The rice cakes were amazing. crispy outside and chewy mochi like inside. The flavor on it is great. It's salty, savory, but paired with the sweet (probably some sort of vietnamese fish sauce? it was amazing. Beef Brisket Noodle Soup: Okay, this one was sort of a miss for me. The broth was rich and thick, not clear soup. It was flavorful but more salty and savory. The broth and noodles themselves were pretty good. Very soft noodles (not al dente they were vermencelli, but you can customize your noodle. The miss for me was the beef brisket. THere were a lot of fatty pieces unfortunately and I am not a fatty meat type of person. There were some super tender pieces of beef brisket, but overall there were more fat than meat. Wonton Soup: If you want something light, clear, and simple this is a good one for you. It's hard to mess up wonton soup. THis one was very light and simple with slight saltiness. The wontons were filled with juicy meat. Service: The food came out quite fast. No complaints for the service! Ambiance: It is like a family style restaurant, good to go with large groups, your family, your friends. It's very casual and good for any occasion. Feels lowkey and authentic. I would come back to try other items! If you try Tan Tan definitely get the house special rice cake : also please check out my youtube or instagram page for my food reviews! My husband and I searched this restaurant and with the amount of reviews we saw we were looking forward to try it out. This place is also featured on trip advisor. So my expectations were higher than usual. I love Chinese food and I love authentic Chinese food! I would say I wasn't happy with the food I tasted at Tan Tan at all and I was super disappointed. We ordered the hot and sour soup (no meat) and it was super sweet, worst hot and sour soup I've ever tasted it was nowhere Chinese! Or Asian! 0/10 for the soup For the entree, we ordered Szechuan shrimps they were not bad but weren't spicy (we ordered spicy) 6/10 Sizzling plate chicken with black bean sauce this was good (it wasn't spicy we ordered spicy) 8/10 Mixed vegetable fried rice with tofu this was good 7/10 Plain white rice The service was okay 6/10 The ambiance was good had cute decors everywhere I would definitely not go here again but maybe if someone tells me what dish is great here to try, I might give it another shot.
