The food was just not up to par. Lack of flavor, items missing etc. Only good thing: The service was good. Hopefully it was just a fluke, but until then I will use caution.
One Sunday in August 2021, we went to Chavez like we always do when we visit my Mom in Spring Branch. I get the shrimp. It was always good until the last time. Are used to get Tex-Mex but discovered their shrimp. The last time was the Sunday and immediately the service was off you could just tell and the food took longer then ever before. They bought the shrimp with fish on it which is never happened before. But I thought it be good to try the fish so I didn’t say anything. Then I bit into the shrimp and it was awful… Gamy. So I complained to the waiter. The waiter comes back And says he spoke to the cook about it. That was all He did…big deal. So we got our ticket to leave no discount or any kind of offer about the bad shrimp. Then when I went to house them about it they said I should’ve returned the plate. (which I complained the minute I tasted the shrimp) Wow! It took twice more for me to complain before they finally took off that plate of shrimp that I ordered. It was a huge pain with them lecturing me and looking at me like I’ve done something wrong. Really bad customer service. Really cheap way of doing business. Especially since we’ve been regular customers there for many years. Don’t know what else to say about that it kind of speaks for itself. Needless to say they ended our customer relationship with them right away. I should have returned the plate immediately when it had the fish on it. That was not what I ordered.I think they added the fish to cover up the fact that they didn’t have any shrimp left and couldn’t communicate enough to tell someone then I’ll order the shrimp.
I was at Chavez Mexican Cafe, very disappointed, carne guisada (fajitas) they call the meat, hard, over cook, dry, the sauce very dark like was burned with big chunks of onions, peppers and tomato, like its to much work, cut small pieces, maybe for pigs are the sizes, very much different from the time they opened, sorry never come back and do not recommended this poor experience...
Glad to see so many others appreciate Salvador Chavez' restaurant. My wife and I ate there during its first week of operation, wanting to support a new venture in our neighborhood. We foundthe food was exceptionally good and the service friendly. We have dined there about once a week over many years and often choose it for extended family gatherings. We have included it during these COVID times as one of the restaurants we want to particularly support. We urge you to give it a try.
Chavez has delicious food and amazing margaritas. Every time I come here the staff is friendly and helpful in making your visit fun. The food is fresh and hot. The fajitas are tender and fresh. I travel 30 minutes to come here. There are a lot of Mexican Restaurants in the area but this one is the best! They also have 3 party rooms at no charge.
