The sandwiches at this restaurant are overpriced and extremely soggy (almost falling apart), and the staff are unfriendly and appear annoyed to even take payment. I overheard other customers at nearby tables also expressing dissatisfaction. I won't be returning - next time, I'll be bringing my own picnic instead of dining at this place associated with English Heritage.
Located in the picturesque grounds of Chiswick House, this cafe offers a pleasant setting for dining. The service was satisfactory, but unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. The dish I ordered, consisting of flatbread with tahini, hummus, salad, and falafel, was disappointing. The falafel was overcooked and lacked flavor, while the flatbread had a rubbery texture that made it difficult to eat. Additionally, the dish was served in a cardboard box, making it awkward to cut with a knife and fork. The temperature of the food, including the fries and the pot of tea I ordered, was lukewarm. After finishing my meal, I felt uncomfortably full. Overall, I paid around £17 for this meal, which I felt was not worth the money.
I do wonder how planning permission was obtained for this very modern building just a stones throw from a Grade 1 listed building. It is a very smart, modern cafe with a smart, modern menu. I once said that when Christopher Lloyd put a bunch of wild flowers in a jam jar it was as far away from a child’s version of that as you could get. A lot of talent goes into looking simple. This is more towards the child’s end of the spectrum. And salty. Why is everything so salty? Loud, loud music and a constant invasion indoors of pigeons who flap about and make the countless dogs bark.
We came on a busy Easter Sunday. The waiters were all so very young. Needed someone experienced to help them out. service was extremely slow. Everything was very expensive. Tables were not sanitised regularly. You would think that cleanliness should be a priority in this current climate! It's cheaper to bring your own food!
