Pilgrim River Steakhouse - Houghton

Pilgrim Steakhouse was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Houghton. The dress code is quite casual; after a backpacking trip on Isle Royale, I found that putting on a collared shirt was unnecessary. Our server, Billy, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and truly brightened the atmosphere. I ordered the prime rib, while my companion chose the NY strip. My prime rib was outstanding and I would suggest it above all other dishes. My companion was envious of how delicious it was! If you’re coming off the trail, be sure to make this a stop!

We were really disappointed during our last visit after dining here for 17 years. Despite being the only customers and having several wait staff around who clearly saw us, we were left waiting for 5 to 10 minutes without a welcome or service. The ranch dressing and bread that usually accompany the salad just weren't the same. They replaced their famous hand-cut fries with frozen ones due to supply issues. My husband ordered the deep-fried cod special, but the fish was cold and completely lacking in flavor. They've even replaced cloth napkins with paper ones. It feels like they're cutting corners in various areas and not prioritizing the customer experience. On a positive note, the spinach salad was still delicious.

I've been here multiple times. I liked the food I got which was the chicken hogie. Decorations of all the animals should go since it ruins my experience there. Other than that the place is good, I like that the lights are dimmed and not so bright. Sometimes the servers are slow to attend to you though.

The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary, which made it feel overpriced. Service was disappointingly slow. The TV advertisement portrayed an elegant dining experience with tablecloths, but in reality, the tables had paper placemats, the lighting was insufficient, and they were quite small. I don’t plan on returning.

My husband and I ate here on a trip to the Keweenaw. The food was good and the service was good. It wasn't spectacular but good and we'd eat here again.
