Got an ?Italian? sub and was supposed to be toasted and clearly was not. There was 5 pounds of oil on it, lettuce that looked like a week plus old and the flavors of the sub sucked. I will not recommend this place what so ever and doubt I?ll ever eat there again.
I lived in Hopewell my entire childhood. I spent my first few years of life 2 blocks from this shop. I moved to Chester when I was 17. The older I 've gotten, I 've had fewer reasons to come to Hopewell but throughout the years, when I do come back I try to make a point to stop in here because it 's always remained largely unchanged (which is a great thing in this case). I 've always enjoyed sandwiches from Sub Hut. The steak and cheese and the meatballs (I remember when you could only get meatball subs on Thursday and Friday and if you didn 't get there early enough, they would he gone) are my go to choices. Fast forward to the reason for this review. I was in the area this afternoon and despite it being Labor Day, I saw they were open so I popped in. Right away I noticed that they had expanded from a small cubby of a building to now include the next door building which serves as a spacious dining room. Next I saw the sign that made me a tad nervous. New Owners: 7-12-21 . My first thought was that my childhood nostalgia sub shop had vanished. Then I noticed the menu looked near identical to what my memory served. I ordered my typical steak and cheese sub and fries and sat down to wait. About 5 minutes later the owner came out and apologized that her fryer was acting up so she wasn 't sure she would be able to make my fries. She then offered me a replacement of banana pudding which I happily accepted. I mentioned that I had forgot to order a drink and before I could even offer to pay, she asked what I would like and had it filled. At this moment I thought ok, the food has always been great here but the service has never been THIS good . A few minutes later and my sandwich was ready. When I saw my sandwich wrapped in the classic white deli paper with the little grease spots on the ends, a wave of feel good nostalgia rushed over me. I know this seems dramatic but I can 't help my feelings! Everything was exactly how I remembered it. The bread was soft and fluffy, the steak was seasoned perfectly, the yellow American cheese and mayo mixed to make an almost cheese sauce. Right as I was finishing my sandwich, the cook came over with the fries that they didn 't think they would be able to make for me! I know they probably already had them dropped and would have thrown them out if they didn 't give them to me but it was still a kind gesture. To wrap things up, Sub Hut is and has always been what I consider a hidden gem. It 's a very locals only vibe but the new owner seems to know exactly what they are doing! I will definitely be back sooner rather than later!
Not too much to this place aesthetically speaking, but the subs were great (steak and cheese and ham and cheese) and prices were fair. We didn't call ahead and waited maybe 10 to 15 mins for our order at lunchtime.
We took the recommendations and tried the Philly steak and cheese and an Italian sub with a side of fried pickle spears. We had the subs with the works. The sub rolls are excellent, it's been toughing finding good subs down here. Both of the subs were excellent. The pickles were delicious as well with a little bit of spice. Definitely a new favorite for subs.
